Hey im trying to drop my underhood temps on a 3rd gen with the stock turbo and currently but soon to be an 2 piece ats exhaust manifold (off the other truck when twins show up). fuel economy has gone to crap with summer heat and summer traffic. my major heat source is the exhaust manifold. my afe has plumbing nearby and my AFE stage 2 sucks air wherever it can get it. I am also dealing with transmission getting hotter than we have ever seen it before. stack on top of that global warming-every year it seems to be hotter. I dont have a gauge on the power steering but im sure it runs pretty hot while we offroad, so anythign we can do to improve air to fluid temp difference at power steering cooler would help pumps and hydroboost units last longer by making coolers more efficient.

SO WHAT IM ASKING THAT OTHERS CAN BENIFIT FROM IS:

a simple heat sheild that bolts on over the exhaust manifold with a seal like on the oven door in the kitchen. I wont mind drilling and tapping my cylinder head to install mounting brackets. oem shield on the front of exhaust manifold should stay in place.

BENIFITS TO BE HAD BY DROPPING UNDERHOOD TEMPS:

  • potentially less maintenance from fluids staying cooler and less viscous break down
  • potentially better mpg by making the engine take it cooler air through air intake and intercooler becomes more efficient (outside air vs. inside air temp difference)
  • potentially more turbine drive pressure from less thermal losses
  • stock transmission coolers can become alot more alot more efficient due to fluid temp vs. underhood temp which could mean less parts and money needed to make them an automatic live
  • could add bling under the hood and hide ugly rusty exhuast manifold.
  • more horsepower from by getting rid of power robbing heat and putting it where you need it?
  • at the very least it would be a marketable gimic to bring in profits
  • potentially could sell in genos where all the tdr member would see.

all i ask is that i can buy the first one as i want one now. you can worry about patents and such on your own. we dont pop our hoods anyways.

as far as shielding heat off the manifold... heres something:
