Ok, I decide to drain my oil tonight, so it can drain all night. Now, before I started, I made sure I could loosen the oil filter first. I don't have a strap wrench, but I was able to get the filter to turn by hand. So, good news.

I climb under the truck to figure out what size socket I need to get the drain plug out. Hmmmmm, no socket needed, as the drain plug has a square hole, about the size of 3/8" drive. Ok, cool, I can handle that. Plug in my ratchet and I try to loosen the plug. After busting a gut, it hasn't budged! Grrrrr. Grab the handle off my Hi Lift jack (about 2 1/2') to use as a cheater bar. STILL THE FREAKIN' PLUG DOESN'T BUDGE!!!!!! #ad

So, what is the trick to getting this POS out??? Obviously I'll be ordering one of those neat drain plugs from Geno's... ... .

HELP!

Unfortunately, Scott, that is a way of life with the stock drain plugs. I even used to torque mine to 30 ft/lbs and still had to use a 1/2" breaker bar with a 3/8" adapter and a 2' long pipe as a cheater on top of it. With a lot of sweat pouring and a big grunt it snapped loose and the Genos plug went in and that was it. Now the problem is that the stock drain plug is susceptible to breaking, so I'd have the new plug in hand just in case it does. Don't be afraid to use some power on it, but be prepared for the worst.

" NOTICE "
When I removed the plug on my truck,
It was so tight that the oil pan was
beginning to twist with it.
I was afraid to continue the pressure
so I used an air gun and held it hammering
for about 30 seconds. Finally it can loose
and into to drain pan.
Now I am careful not to tighten it too
much.

The trusty old rattle wrench was used on mine after the dealer changed the oil (free). Now I do it myself and just snug it good with a 6" ratchet. I have not had a leak or trouble getting it out again since.

I put a thin film of moly high temp wheel bearing grease on both sides of the washer. That helps keep it from sticking.
