I have a project truck 2005 5.9 - - replaced the computer because the AC wasn't working

First computer received back the truck wouldn't start
They sent a brand new one and it didn't start (found out it was for a 2004)
switched out two other computers and both of them the truck didn't start.

checked all the wires and plugs

I keep getting a key code error;
P0633 SKIM Secret Key Not Entered

the computer guy said this is ok:confused::confused::confused:

Anyone know a good mechanic in the Tampa, FL area who could help troubleshoot.

Thanks

John

Unless the dealer is equipped to bench program an ECM (doubtful), then the entire truck (with the ECM installed) must be brought to a dealer for programming.

The company I bought the ECM from said it was already programmed for my truck. I gave them the VIN and a few other numbers (can't remember which ones) they requested.

I have done this before trying to get the AC to work and never got one back that the motor wouldn't run.

John,

Can you clarify which computer you replaced (PCM or ECM)? I'm assuming the PCM because you're trying to fix the AC.

I found this in Chrysler Service Bulletin 08-030-06 REV. A, dated August 25, 2006:

When a Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is replaced on vehicles equipped with the Sentry Key™ Theft Deterrent System, it must be initialized to properly function with the anti-theft module. This is accomplished at a Chrysler Group Dealer by using the DRBIII® or StarSCAN™ Scan Tool to enter a PIN number.

When the PIN number is not available from the vehicle owner or a Chrysler Group Scan Tool(s) is not available this can be accomplished by writing the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) into the PCM using an after-market scan tool with a "VIN Write Function". More information is available from the scan tool manufacturer or the Equipment & Tool Institute.

NOTE: After performing this procedure with an after-market scan tool on vehicles equipped with Chrysler Group's Next Generation Controller (NGC), Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) “P0633 - SKIM SECRET KEY DATA NOT STORED IN PCM” will be set. This DTC will not effect vehicle or system performance and cannot be erased.

This implies that IF the company who sold you the PCM did indeed properly program it using an aftermarket tool, then that P0633 DTC you're getting may up indeed be normal.

It would sure be helpful to connect a Chrysler DRBIII scan tool to your truck to try and figure out what's going on.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

John,

By chance is the VTSS (Vehicle Theft Security System) LED flashing on the instrument cluster when you turn the ignition key to the RUN position?
