Hello guys,

Bought a ashtray/cupholder light(55361226AA) for my 03 but don't see how it connects. Has anyone put one on a 03? I think they come on the 04 and later but i need to utilize it on my truck. Any ideas????

thanks

Well I installed one on my 04. 5 SLT. If you pull the center console off and find an unused wiring connector on the left side of the dash behind the center console, then just plug it in and slide the light into the slot on the lower edge of the dash. If it was not an option on the 03s, then it may be more trouble than its worth trying to find a way to mount it so it will put the light where you need it.

The light kit WAS an option on the '03s, and included the cupholder light. Wanted to get it but missed the order cut-off date by about 10 days, so had to take one off the lot, which didn't have it. I'll get around to it this year, I hope.

If that is the case then the install is simple. Like I posted, remove the center console, plug into the wiring connector and snap the light case into the slot with the lights pointing downward.

JVolpe

my truck is an early 03 and i cant find a connection/connector and the opening/slot for the light is 3/4 X 1& 1/5. the light is 1 x 3 ????? yes the center consol is off. will have to keep checking. FYI my truck is a Laramie and has the light group. who knows... ... ... .

thanks and keep the feedback coming

Best regards

I looked in the 03 and 04 DR manuals for removal/install instructions for the Ash Tray/Cup Holder light and could not find it anywhere. Maybe I just went blind or brain dead, but does not seem to be in the manual. My Lamp Ash Receiver ordered from DodgeParts.com did not have any instructions with it. Just the part in a plastic bag. I just saw other posts that said the wiring should be there and just plug it in. The wiring was there and very easy to see and use for install in my case. I will see if the wiring diagrams for the 03s have the wiring harness defined for the Lamp Ash Reciever when I get a chance today.

if you cannot find the wiring conenctor which is a grey connector and is snapped to the black plastic inner structure of the center stack you could always just run the wire to any running light circuit as the LED's do not dim with the rest of the console lights. I changed my green crappy LED to a brighter warm white so that I can see better.

JVolpe,

any luck finding the wiring diagrams?

MCrossley,

i will inquire a little deeper on this is i can't find the connector.

I will let you all know how it goes

Thanks

DD,

Sorry been tied up all day. I have looked thru all the wiring diagrams and 03 and 04 manual. I just can not find any thing but an Ashtray Lamp connector wiring diagram, pictured. I usually can find what I am looking for in one of the manuals, but not this time

Still can't find the connection

I would like to ty in to one of the connectors in the center panel. does anyone have a scematic and can tell me what wire is hot w/ the dash lights?

The aux passenger side airbag cutoff switch I added is an easy choice but don't want to mess w/ that circuit

Thanks for all the help

DD go to the radio there is always a light feed there it has been historicaly orange on chrysler for ever. On another note if you have any white face gauge covers left you might want to post on here some one was looking but I had lost your email addy.

Bob

Thanks Bob,

I will look for the orange wire.

No more white face overlays left. they are made by Nu-Image. I think they are in Carona, Ca. Can't find the number right now.

Take care

I did this mod on my '03 yesterday -- it took LESS than 10 minutes! I purchased the part -- 55361226AA -- from my local dealer for $24. 51. I took off the dash cover (remove 1 screw and pull gently against the friction clips at the corners) and found the female plug and wire just to the left of the radio. The part slides into two grooves just above the bottom of the dash cover (you can't see the grooves until you remove the cover) and two flat prongs on the back of the part slide into two small rectangular holes between the two grooves. It was a tight fit but finally slid in and locked. The female plug is fastened to the dash with a plastic prong; pull or pry gently and it will come free; insert the male plug from the part and refasten the plastic prong into the original hole. A flashlight is very handy here, even in bright sunlight, as everything inside the dash is black, and soaks up all the available light. Replace the dash cover, and you're done! You have to wait until dark -- or take the truck inside your garage -- to see the illumination provided by the new lights, however. It's very dim and pale green -- but it's enough to see the cupholders at night on the road.

I did this today on my VERY EARLY '03 (built August of 2002). There is no plug for the lights and I had to trim the panel to get the holder to slide into place.

I read through the thread over at Dodge Talk and decided to use the wires from the AC connector C1 (Cavity 2 - wt/bk and cavity 8 - or/yl) to splice into. I traced the wires back into the cloth loom and stripped a small bit of insulation off of the wires and soldered in the wires from the light (bl/pk to wt/bk and or/gr to or/yl). Covered the soldered joint with electrical tape and tucked it back into the loom. Almost looks factory!

We'll wait and see this evening what it looks like.
