Ok I need some advice. I just got through installing boost and egt gauge. Egt seems to work great but no reading on boost. Egt reads 650 to 700 runing 75mph with out load boost reads 0.

What should boost read at that speed or anywhere in between?

:

Do you think I might have gotten my wires crossed up and hooked power to ground and ground to power?

transmission temp gauge not hooked to probe yet but pegs out high when the switch is turned on?

I have to get me a fitting before I can install the probe. Anyone have a part number for the fitting are the size it takes?

The gauges are Westach fro Geno's. Boost and egt is the combo gauge.

All help will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you have the power wires reversed on the boost gauge, that will make it inoperable.

Boost at 75 should be 6-10psi, depending on grade, altitude etc.

The best place to put the transmission temp probe is in the return line to the pan, Janetty Racing has the part. About $40 if I remember right.

I would STRONGLY recommend getting the new Westach fuel pressure gauge from Geno's, it's the only way to tell if you have a bad lift pump or one that's heading south. Just finished the install myself, posted over in Products/Accessories forum, take a look!

Sam,

If your boost wires are not reversed, did you put some teflon tape or thread compound on the fittings? Geno's sells a dipstick sensor, that I understand is their most popular type with the Westach trans guage. I recently installed Autometers, and I went to the DC dealer and got a '95 model line, which has the place to screw in the sensor. Bad thing about it, it cost $120 with tax included. I just came back from a trip to New Orleans, pulling my 5er, and I loved having those guages. Good luck with yours.

Quite often, temperature gauges will have what we call, "upscale burnout. " This means that if the gauge thinks the t/c has burned out, it will go full scale. If there's no temperature-sensing device hooked to it, it thinks the device has burned out. Think of it as a fail-safe mechanism.

Hey all I was looking at the Autometer home page and they show an 2-1/16" 3 instrument instrument bazel for 2000 dodge truck. Using this instead of the apillar sounds like a better idea more stock orginal appearance looking. I have a 2001 but think the 2000 bazel would work on mine. Has anybody tried the instrument cluster bazel (they only show the 2 instrument pic nto the 3)? What does it look like, how do you like it, and do you know if the one for the 2000 truck will work on the 2001?

:D Yes I did screw up on the wireing. The ground for the boost gauge I had run out for the transmission temp prob and the prob wire run to ground.

Trying to run every thing back down through the dash my string can\me loose so I will have to lossen the dash up again to get them down. Since I have to work out side and I ran out of shade, being a shade tree machinic, I had to quit until tomorrow. When temp gets over 90 I head for the a/c. Thanks for all the help. Will let you all know how it comes out.

Boost gauge

Got the wires hooked up right but still think something is wrong.

When you turn the switch the gauge will move from below 0 to 0, so I have meter movement but when I get out on the road (road is level here in Fl. no hills) it looks like it might move about 1/2 # and no more and that is running at 80 mph. I have air flow at the meter so the line is not kinked. I have the 0-50 gauge. Do you thank it might not be too accrant at that low of press. I have a small air compressor thar has a regulator that I can control the press so I am thinking about testing the gauge with it to see if it works. What do you all think.

Sam,

It sounds like you have one of two problems:

1) Defective gauge.

2) Bad tap location/REALLY leaking connection for your tubing.

I'd try using your air compressor set to about 20psi and hit the juice to your gauge to see what happens. Let me know what happens.

Autometer instrument bezel

Bob, where did you see an instrument bezel for the 2000 Dodge on the Autometer website? When I was looking all I found was a bezel for a Ford Super Duty, but the picture is shown right next to the item description for a 3 gauge dash pod for a 2000 Dodge. When you start matching up part numbers you see that things aren't what they seem.

Although if Autometer does have one, let me know. I'd definitely want to check it out.

Aggie~ I think you are right I just went back and looked again. I thought was looking at instrument cluster for a Dodge but when you match up it is for the Ford. The discription is for the dash pod on a Dodge. :( Sorry about the wild goose chase. I will keep looking cause it sounds like a great idea for the Dodge.
