So who's been hunting, or is about to head West?

okay, here is the car: '97 pontiac grand-am 2. 4L auto. here is the problem: transmission went south (slipping in 2nd gear bad), pulled the transmission, installed a rebuilt transmission and torque converter, now the p. o. s. will not start:confused: all electrical connectors are reconnected properly, have spark, have fuel, but no fire, just cranks, tried ether, no luck, retraced removal/install to make sure all connections are correct, nothing. any help is greatly appreciated.

When you say you "have fuel" does that mean you have an injector pulse of just fuel pressure at the schrader valve? Do a compression check, I've seen cars sit for a while and loose compression, A shot of oil in each cylinder will get it started if this is the case.

i have both, injector pulse and pressure at the shrader, also have good, consistent compression on all four cyliders (its a 2. 4l motor)

How did you test for spark? A spark plug grouned to the engine is NOT good enough. There may be enough spark to jump a . 050 gap in atmosphereic pressure but NOT under compression. If you only checked spark on one plug there may be 3 non firing plugs in the motor. For the engine to run you need air, fuel, compression, spark, and most improtant, these things have to occur on TIME. I'd like to see at least 150 psi compression, about 35 to 50 psi fuel and I'd like to see the spark jump a 3/4" gap in open air. If you have all those things, check the timing.
