Today on the way back from x-mas tree killing I was climbing a grade with my 4000lb trailer behind me, in 5th gear w/cruise cont on set at 60mph (around 1800rpm) and the truck started to shudder :( I was around half throttle, there was no noticable power loss and it went away when I pulled the throttle back a little. I downshifted to 4th and went to full throttle, all the normal power was there (30psi boost). It only did it this one time, I can't get it to do it again. There was no check eng light or any codes on the odo. I had the right window down and I didn't hear any eng missfire There are about 114000 miles on it, it's and early 2000 model year (bought new in Nov 99) Put a new lift pump on at around 102000 miles and that's about it for eng work. Even though there was no trans noise something tells me there might be a bearing on it's way out, or could this be the start of the 5th gear nut falling off? Anybody have any insight or sugestions? Any help would be great, you guys are awesome!

Not good, I would pull the rear case off the trans and check it and the U-Joints. 1800 is not lugging the motor, so I would for sure check the trans. I never use cruise when towing, a lot of NV4500's have been killed doing that, but with the weight you had on, it shouldn't be an issue :D

I don't think the clutch was slipping, I gave it full throttle in 5th gear too and it started pulling hard as normal. It then pulled right through the shudder.

Not sure when I'll get to looking at it, I have a company service truck that I drive everyday so I might wait till spring when it warms up a bit ;)
