Transmission is acting up again.

Seems like for no reason the transfer case is effecting the ability to get the truck in gear. I haven't used the 4wd for a while.

I can drive for months and all is fine. This weekend the problem returned several times. I was parked on a hill and when I tried to put it in gear I heard/felt a loud bang in what seemed like the rear. The truck moved fine but then stated to slip while moving slow. From experience, I shift into 4wd and truck moves then I shift back into 2wd and all is good. I needed to repeat this a couple of time this weekend.

I had the same problem a year ago and I thought it went away.

Any ideas???

The loud bang was likely just the park pawl releasing - they can bang pretty good if they have a load on them (from being on a hill). As for the slipping: if the trans were slipping internally it would have put you in logical limp-in mode, so since I presume that didn't happen, slip must be either in the transfer case, or just slipping the tires. Were you on a slippery surface?

After thinking about, I'd agree the bang was the parking brake hanging up. Definitely was not tire slip. Audible noise coming from transfer case even though I hadn't used it for a while. I got to believe it's something in the transfer case.
