Okay guys I need some advice. On the way to work today my truck up and died on me. Now I made it to one jobsite and it ran fine to there. When I left I started it up and took off and not less the 1 minute after start up it seemed like it began to loose rpms and it looked like it was blow out blue smoke and then it died (all this in about 10-15 seconds). I was getting on it or nothing just taking off nice and easy. It was almost like it ran out of fuel without the sputtering which it may have ( fuel gauge don't work) but I still had about a 150mi to go on that tank. Any ideas as to what I need to check other than the fuel level. Thanks in advance.

Sdstriper gave some good advice. If the connections are good then look at the fuel cutoff solenoid relay. There have been several forum threads that discussed the failure of the relay causing the fuel cutoff solenoid not to work.

Since I don't have a service manual for an early Dodge, I could very well be wrong. I thought, the fuel cutoff solenoid setup worked a lot like the 2nd gens where the ignition "start" position engages the solenoid which pulls a lever up and the ignition "run" position holds the solenoid engaged which keeps the same lever in the up position. Due to the high current draw when the solenoid pulls the lever up, a relay is used to help protect the ignition switch.

No. Not anything like that.

1st Gen is simpler- one wire, only requires 4volts to hold open. At least that is what the battery was putting out when the alternatotr crapped out on me in north central NE 6yrs ago, and the truck still ran.

I would start with a new fuel filter. You could crack your injector lines and see if fuel is reaching your injectors. Another thing to try, pull the plunger out of the shut off solenoid, and try running, could be faulty.
