Any thoughts here would be appreciated. Driving home on freeway doing about 70mph. Truck always running perfect. Has 55000 miles. Truck hesitated twice, started to lose power, hesitated again and then died. Pulled off freeway and tried to re-start but nothing. Made sure fuel gauge wasn't screwed up by adding 10 gallons fuel. cycled pump several times, still nothing. Pulled filter, had fuel, cycled pump with filter out and it seemed to be delivering adequate amount to filter housing. Put filter back in and cycled several more times unit pump quit cycling, still wont start. Called a slider and it now sits next to the house. Am I missing something here? Checked fuel pressure a couple weeks ago and seemed good. I thought when vp started to die they acted strange for awhile before just dying.

I'm no expert and I'm sure someone more knowledgable will chime in, but a good start would be to check for any codes that might have been set. In case your not sure how to do this, put the key in the ignition and turn it on (but don;t start!) then off. Do this two times then on the third time leave it on. if any codes were set off they will show on the odometer. Write them down then do a search on the 24 valve engine and transmission forum for codes. Someone (sorry I don't remember who) spent a lot of time and effort to post all the codes. Anyway, do a search and you'll find it. Good luck!

Need to get a Fuel Pressure gauge . Can use the Schrader Valve on the Vp (test Port) The LP wont cycle every time . and just because the Canister Fills doesnt mean that your getting plenty of fuel to the VP . had a friend who was Out of fuel and he did that test and the canister still filled so that kind of shoots that test all to heck IMO. YOu will most likly get P1693 on the read out with the Key cycles you will need a scanner to get the codes that are set ... ... here are the OBDII P Code Definitions ... http://3d.otisnet.net/odbii.htm

I would start there .

When the VP-44 died on my 01. 5 it was running fine and had not had ANY symptoms of a problem. It died while running down the highway and I coasted to a stop. I scratched my head for a moment and tried to start it... it fired right up. It ran only a few more miles and died again... this time it was totally dead. I had to change the pump to get it running again. It DID set several codes when it died.

Thanks for the info !! With the milage and year (2001 55,000. 00) being the second owner, is this a warranty covered issue ? Also, I know to take the EZ off before taking it in, but how about the BHAF. Thanks again.

BHAF should be no problem - definitely get rid of the EZ.

On edit: When you take off the EZ you need to put the original boost elbow back in or you may get an overboost code. I know it isn't running now, but if a tech road tests it after its running again, and sees a boost code, the tech may start digging into why.

The warranty should cover it less a $100 deductible with only 55K miles providing you are still in 5 years. When did the original owner take delivery?

Really don't know when the original owner took delivery. I will check into that. The boost elbow was one I hadn't thought about. Thanks again for the help.
