My truck is a 1995 Auto & has the 160 hp rated motor. I am swapping the auto out for a NV4500. I have ground the plate & exhaust. What do I need to do to this pump to get more power out of it? Delivery valves & Injectors? Looking for recomendations on sizes/numbers. Get another pump that was 215 hp rated in the first place? Thanks in advance!!

Did you?

Did you bump the timing to 15. 5*?? I'd set the timing and install a 3GSK governor spring kit and move the plate full forward, this will wake up the 160 quite a bit.

What profile did you grind the plate?

Don't see gauges in your sig. Get those first, if you don't have them already.

Slide the plate forward, 181 or 191DVs, 370 injectors, set the pump timing to 15-16*, bigger turbo, and 3k GSK.

That'd be a good place to start. :D

Oh, and don't forget to get a good clutch. :D

i went to a 5" exhaust due to engine mods going over 400hp. i have a complete flowmaster 3. 5" force II system i used for 3 months this summer. will sell it for 225. 00 plus shipping, like new, paint still on the muffler, with seal band clamps included. let me know if you are interested.

First things first

You are going to need the GSK no matter what. You can add DV's, injectors, and even a turbo and it still will be piggish without the added rpm range.

So I would go with a 3GSK, and move the plate forward, and drive it. I'm sure you will be surprised. If you do this before you do the auto to NV4500 swap you can write off the stock auto trans. It won't handle the added hp and torque.

If you try to add more before the trans swap you won't feel much added performance because of the poor power transfer through the stock TC.

Hope this helps Greg L

He already has a Banks 4" exhaust.

Have you guys seen this???

It says not recomended for the 160 horse? Made me think the pump was not capable?? My 2000 was about 275 hp, I'd like to get 300 out of this one. I have gauges.

You can get 370's from here and gring the plate for free. Save some money and have more power, too.

Not sure what the plate they have (the Ebay store) is equivelant as far as plate number. Not a 10. Looks sort of like a 4, but not quite. 6 maybe? If you grind yours to a #100 and a set of 370s (will require bigger DV's), you'd plenty of power. :D

Let me elaborate a little...

I had the auto, ground a "0" plate slid forward, trans didn't get along with this at all. Now I am almost done with the swap to NV4500, got a "decent" clutch. Now I am ready for some more. When it was locked up in OD it would fly, can't wait to drive it this weekend with the manual!!!! Are 370's "hotter" than the 300"s????? I have been wanting to get the GSK since I bought the truck, especially after the added power, it feels like it hits a wall. LOL!! Wanted to know which delivery valves & injectors I should be looking at. Anybody close that can do the timing???

Be happy she is using so little fuel......

Hey I know some enhancements can improve mileage - BUT thst's pure BS - because you will take a long time not trying out your new toy - and today - that cost's a lot... ... ...

Since you're converting to a 5 speed, go with the 4k GSK. That and a set of 215 injectors and a decent plate (#4 or #5) will get you going good and you should still be able to get good milage. 181 delivery valves will get you a little more power.

The 160 hp pumps start to defuel at about 2,200 rpm. Stock with your foot to the floor the trands won't upshift until about 2,400 rpm. Cool, huh? The 5 speed swap will make a huge difference in acceleration, my first T/C upgrade was one of the biggest acceleration improvements on my truck.

What are you gonna do with the old auto?

I agree with the 4gsk. I would rather do a little bigger injector than the 215 so I wouldn't have to do that again later either. But I am afraid the 370s would be too much for me?

I put ads in the classifieds for most eveything left over with minimal results. I sold a lot of the big items to a local salvage yard to get it out of my way. I can put people in touch with them, just send me a PM.

Will I really need to change the valve springs right now if I go with the 4 GSK instead of the 3 untill I do some more or start to get up over 3K rpm????

4gsk all the way

i have the 4 gsk and 191's with 370 injectors on the stock turbo cause my hx40 chocked and so far so good. my plate isn't ground or slid forward cause i don't want to buy a clutch right now but let me tell you the ford and chevy boyd around here recognize my tailgate and thats about it :D as far as the springs go i had a shop do the gsk and valve springs and it was really reasonable the valve springs were like another 100 bucks and they adjusted the valves while they were in there(obviously) anyways i love my truck after the mechanic test drove it he had this stupid grin on his face and he looks at me and says"man that thing runs like a bat out of h#ll" when you run it to 3200 rpm on a straight pipe people know your "cummins" :-laf

If you get the 370's and they are a little warm, just slide the AFC housing or the plate to the rear some. As you get a better turbo (more air), or whatever, slide it ahead again.

I don't have EGT issues with my current setup. 191DVs are going in next weekend, so we'll see what happens with the temps.

The 370's don't work real well with the 160 pump. They'll run WFO OK but the part throttle roughness around 1100-1400 rpm is pretty bad, some trucks are worse than others. Call around to the performance shops to see if they have any used 215's, I got mine for a song.

The 181 DV's do help with the part throttle roughness, 191's help more but they aren't cheap. When you're calling around for the 215 injectors, ask about getting a set of 181 DV's too, they're takeouts from 180 and 215 hp pumps. I got those for even less than the 215 injectors!
