Hello all, it's time for my 45,000 mile maintenance, and the local Pomona California dealer quoted me 650. 00 :--)

So... I'm gonna do it myself!!!!

I have limited computer access right now, or I'd do searches for this, so be kind... :)

Engine Oil I obviously can handle...

Differentials I can handle, but need advice on the fluids.

Transmission... Which plug do I drain from? and advice on fluid.

T-Case... again, which plug, which fluid?

Dealer said T-Case would have to be done, but my manual says 60,000 miles.

That, and the ridiculous price is why I'm doing this myself!

Also, Please give me info on how to check the water pump weep-hole, and which grease to lube the tie-rod ends with, and at the risk of sounding stupid... Please describe the tie rod ends

Thanks guys!!!

Mconstable - you will get a lot of satisfaction and safe money doing it yourself. Go for it!

I also use and recommend mobil 1 75w90 gear lube.

Transfer case uses ATF +4 - there are two plugs, a higher and lower one. The lower is the drain plug, higher is fill plug. Very simple - On level ground, remove lower and let fluid drain - replace. Remove top one , fill with atf +4 till it runs out of the holes. I do my xfer case every 15k miles just because it's so easy to do, and when I did it the first time at 30k it looked nasty.

A lot of guys with manuals like redline fluid - mtl typically, but I can't comment based on experience.

If you are on the ground near the front of your truck, follow some of the horizontal bars out to the sides, near the brakes. If you look closely you'll see one grease zerk on each side. The owners manual specifies what kind of grease to use. I got a compatible kind at autozone - valvoline synpower. I don't think it's that crucial what type you get but I could be wrong.

One of the "good" suggestions I've read on the TDR was to loosen the fill plugs before dumping the fluids just in case you find you can't get the fill plug out, after draining the fluid.

If you want to "overload" on information, go over to the "bobistheoilguy.com" website. There is an incredible amount of info. on lube products. There are many highly recommended products that many of us may have never heard of before (including me).

Red Line gear oils (75w-90 NS) get a lot of recommendations, for the F/R axles. Red Line MTL gets a lot of raves for the NV-5600. I'm not sure about the transfer case. This is not to say that Red Line is the ONLY way to go. But, it does get quite a few recommendations.

Hope this helps.

Alot of us are using Pennzoil Syncramesh (sp?) manual transmission fluid

in the NV5600. It is easy to get from Autozone. Others like full synthetic.

I will be changing about every 30,000 so the Pennzoil is fine for me.

Thanks All!!

Just what I needed, I know I can handle it... I put on my exhaust and airbox, just haven't done the T-case or transmission before.

Haven't done the diffs either, but they're more of a no brainer, one fill-plug, and all :)

Still don't have the guts to do my own pyro and boost install, though, had the damn gauges for a year now!!!

They do look nice in the pillar though... LOL
