I am posting this for a fellow member who is on vacation and having a problem.

SMartin's truck is a 99 with an EZ box and a boost elbow, other than that it is stock.

On full throtle foot on the floor, with 24lbs of boost

The truck acts like some one lifted their foot off the throtle, the boost goes down to 10lbs and then it goes back to pulling like before.

Has anyone had this problem before, only thing we can think is the factory computer is somehow getting too high a boost reading and shutting down? Or is it something else...

Not the same and may not be related at all but in early june I had a problem with no power at times. Conditions for it to happen were going down long hill ie mountain pass with light throttle, low boost, 50-80mph then when I would go to push the go pedal it would not do anything except smoke like heck even backfired a few times. If I mashed the pedal to get it to kickdown it would come back fine, sometimes letting off completely and then getting back on it would cure it. Except at the time it was doing it it ran fine. It progessively started doing it more frequently, didn't require a long downhill just a light throttle condition. Turned out to be the vp44. Might be vp44 seems they crap out in a variety of fashions. I would check for codes. Mine had 0216 injection pump timing failure.

have him check fuep pressure and fuel filter ... . cheep and quick

OH BTW. . factory 'puter should not see the boost level with an EZ and elbow

Let me give some more info. .

Scot has a fuel pressure gauge between the lift pump and the vp44 and has pleanty of pressure. Never had a problem just put the gauge in because of this board and the problems that have been incountered...

The boost and exhaust temp and all other vitals are good.

I have been searching for stuff here and found similar problems with loose ground straps and other things to try.

If anyone has had similar problems please let us know. .

thanks for the help so far, I am still amazed at how good this board is, the people here are great...

Last month in Colorado I had something similar happen while climbing Douglas Pass on the way up to Dinosaur Nat'l Monument. Pulling the trailer, GCVW about 16 K, uphill, making her work. Out of the clear blue she stumbled - a very brief instant of no power, but it came right back.

Since then the CTD has stumbled a couple of more times, but not as severe, but typically when accelerating a little hard at higher RPMs. I suspected fuel pressure problem and changed the filter, but don't have a guage yet (it's ordered) but saw no improvement. It'll still stumble from time to time.

I've also noticed periods where the engine rattle will die off after a period of heavier throttle, but as soon as I let off a tad, the usual rattle level comes back accompanied by a slight increase in power. It's behaving like it's running short on fuel, thus the reason I ordered the FP guage. Since it's still under warranty, it'll be making a trip to the dealer real soon for their opinion.
