I am have a problem getting the wheel bearing hub off of the axle. I Cant seem to break it loose. 15 Lb sledge and air hammer don't seem to budge it. What are the tricks of the trade to get them off? I was told I heed new hubs and they are like $400 a side.

Any help would be great.

thanks kevin

I used a 10 pounds slide hammer attached to the lug bolts. Took about 3 to 4 hours to get each side to break loose. There was a recommendation a few weeks back to use a small hydraulic ram alternating on the four twelve point bolts that hold the bearing in the steering knuckle. Loosen the 4 bolts about a 1/4 inch and apply pressure with the ram. I believe you can rent the hydraulic rams. Use anti-seize on everything when you put it back together.

Be carefull You can pull the bearing apart if you pull on the studs and as far as I know the bearing will be junk.

You can use a small port power ram or someone posted a while back said to put a socket and short ext on the hub bolts (back side) then turn the wheel the ext will hit the axle forcing the assembly out do a little to each bolt, sounded like it would work to me.

My bearing was $200 each side non ABS.

Anti seize or silicone as mentioned above makes it much easier next time

Hope this helps

What Jschafer said. Using the steering to push the hub out works very well. I hade my wife turn the wheel while I placed the extension on the bolts. I used a couple of different extensions for different bolts. It only took a few minutes to do each side.
