Friend of mine has a '04. 5 3500 and a new Lance slide in. When the slide in is on the truck the clearance lights on the roof of the truck reflect off on the underside of the cabover and onto the windshield. Is it possible to access the wiring and put a switch in the wire for the clearance lights so they can be shut off when the cabover camper is on the truck?

Seems to me it may be easier to just pull the bulbs when the camper is on so you wouldnt have to cut the harness. Just an idea ;)

If it were me I would locate the wiring going up there, and put a switch in that circuit. I'm not positive where the harness is located, maybe the A pillar.

Artie your shop manual shows the wire up the driver side A pillar; would you know the color of that wire so it could be found under the dash?

Wire colors

On the 03 model year the colors are Black/Yellow for power and Black/Red for ground side. On the 04 model year the colors are White/Gray for power and Black for the ground side.

Thanks

Thank you for the replies, I passed it on to him. He is considering a switch I think to disable the lights when he wants them off. We were concerned that in some way disabling the lights might affect something else so if we go that route, or whatever we decide to do, I will keep you posted. We really appreciate the help, this is what TDR is all about.

This truck has a computer that controls most of the lights. . I'm guessing that a switch would set a fault code... . Painting the underside of the camper would be my choice... . that way the lights are always on when you need them... .

BTW are you all aware that your dealer can turn on the day time running lights..... I've had it done to several trucks that I own and my dealer does it for me for free... . my insurace company offers a discount for those vehicles with daytime running lights...

It sets the headlights at about 40%

running light issue

We had considered some sort of contact paper under the slide in also. That way it would be removable at some point in time. Still dunno what the owner has decided but I directed him to your post Jim and thanks.

I had not heard of the lights at %40. That would be a great safety issue as you said. Will the clearance lights on the cab be on also? I would prefer that they are not on, maybe just the headlights. Thanks for the info.
