I have a ETH/DEE that seems to have high EGT's while running empty. I have a post turbo pyrometer (i know pre turbo is prefered but I have to work with what I have) that reads 800 - 900 degrees while running up a 6 mile 7% grade at 65 - 70mph. It will climb to 900 and stay there if I don't back off it and today I even had to downshift to 5th to get the temps down. The truck only has 500 miles on it and it was close to a 100 degrees out today. Does this sound normal or something I need to look into? The engine is completely stock with the exception of the pyrometer, exhaust brake and a Amsoil Air Filter. I would expect these temps if I was towing but this seems high with a empty truck. My old Chevy with a gas 350 would easily do 80mph up this same grade. Seems like I should be able to do 70mph with my new truck without outrageous EGT's.

Thanks for any insight,

The egt's seem to run high with the ETH, mine did stock as well, could easily hit 1300 pre-turbo on WOT runs up a steep grade. I added the Edge EZ and the egt's, while climbing faster, never topped 1100 or so on the same runs. Not looking to turn you into a mad BOMBer Ray :D , but the EZ is an awesome box all by itself with the ETH.

How's the Install?

I've heard the EZ is a easy install but what about this boost elbow that comes with it? What is involved in installing that? Also, is there any harm in running the EZ with stock injectors? I read somewhere that it can harm the fuel pump? If it's really "EZ" I may have to try it.

Ray - I just installed gauges in the wifes 2k1 this weekend and I was very surprised on her temps also.

Coop came over and helped me take out her HY-35 and swap it out for an HX-35, plus we installed a K&N RE-0880, and her peak temp is 1200 degrees pre turbo. I'm afraid to see how they were with the HY turbo and the stock box.

My first advice is to dump that stock air box. That should help out.

Ray, the install with the EZ is a piece of cake. The OEM boost elbow is on the turbo, remove the clamp, remove the elbow and replace with the aftermarket elbow and new clamp.

I can't see how the EZ will be putting a strain on the VP44 with stock injectors, it's a mild fueling box compared to others and I think that there's no facts out there that show more VP44's failed due to heavy fueling boxes with stock injectors, if that makes sense (it's getting late !) .

I'm of the opinion that a strong VP44 will take what you throw at it inregards to boxes, injectors, etc. , while a weak one will go toes up with the slightest imperfection ala a weak lift pump, heavy fueling box, etc.
