Rear bumper replacement chrome?

I have a 1998.5 Dodge 2500 24 valve Cummins 4x4.

In January the truck had multiple issues, so I replaced the VP44, the tank sending unit, installed 100 HP injectors and installed a FASS pickup tube kit. I also replaced all the feed fuel line from tank to VP44. To do some of the work (fuel tank) I removed the bed.

Once everything was put back together, everything worked fine for a few days. While at work my aftermarket alarm system (Compustar) went off for some reason (think it was a high wind day). When it was time to go home, I got in the truck, turned the lights on and had no dash or running lights working. Headlights, blinkers, turn signals, brake lights work fine.

Did some research and everything I could find said it’s the main switch or a fuse. I went to the auto parts store and picked up a new headlight switch and swapped it out, still no dash lights or running lights. Went back to the auto parts store and bought another switch just in case that one was faulty, still no dash lights or running lights. Checked fuses and didn't find any that were bad.

While checking the main switch I noticed that when I turned the lights on, the dash light would flash slightly. So, I slowly pulled out the main switch and for a moment the dash and running lights came on. This works with the truck on or off. I have checked the plug the main switch connects to and everything looks like it has a good connection. It doesn't show any signs of melting or any other issues. The lights do not flicker under any other condition, only when you slowly adjust the main switch, but the headlights will sometime go out just as the dash and running lights turn on. I also checked to make sure the switch knob is fully seated into the switch assembly and no change.

I also changed the switch one more time (different brand) just to make sure and it did not resolve the issues.

I drove the truck for almost a year with no electrical issues until this one.

Any ideas what it might be?

That is normal, I made the same mistake of getting sidetracked when hunting down a problem with mine.

Murphy says that when you encounter an issue after doing some maintenance to go to the last place you worked. In your case it was lifting the bed. If you don't have a factory service manual I suggest you get one. It contains complete wiring diagrams you might need to chase the gremlin.
