what are some mods I could do to get a HP increase of 80-100? I don't want too much because of auto transmission. I looked at some chips but wasn't very successful. Thanks

I am new to this site and a new dodge. . errr Cummins owner. I just bought a BDDL w/outlook and am pretty well satisfied with it and my truck also has the auto. I have been told that the new 48re trans in the 05 is pretty much bullet proof. I was told that the trans was designed to handle approx 800 hp and 1600 ftlbs of torque. I didnt hear that from and engineer however. I had an 02 duramax with auto and this 48re seems to handle the power better than the allison. I had a bully dog dynodominator in the duramax and it was way way fast. It was a Mustang gt eater (really bad too). This is my first dodge cummins and I have only had it a couple of weeks and only pulled 10k on a bumper trailer. It seemed to pull better midrange and top end than the duramax. The duramax was a 5 spd though. I have a really sttep hill that is about 3/4 mile long and has some turns that keep you from getting any speed so its mostly a slow pull no matter what kind of power you have. I would suggest if you are going to pull loads to change exhaust, air filter and get guages if you chip it though. I use Bully Dog and have sold some of them with no complaints whatsoever. I mostly used my duramax as a race car in disguise though. I will use the dodge for more work related activities. Sorry to ramble and I am sure there will be someone that has far more knowledge about the trans than me to read this post. I hope any of this helps.

Sounds like a sales pitch to me.

Actually It wasnt a sales pitch at all. I was talking to the guys at b & s Customising and had already purchased the mods from them and was concerned about the trans handling it all. I was inquiring about trans upgrades when they told me this. Naturally anytime you put more power and force on anything the longevity might and probably will diminish somewhat. I ws just concerned about smoking it in the first 50k. That quote was supposed to come from someone at Dodge. Call the guys at B & S Customising if you like. They seem like pretty good guys.

A complete upgrade won"t support those Numbers.

The TC is factory Max. After hardware upgrades the 47/48re can support 425 to 550 Hp and up to 1100 ft TQ. Any HP increase after 80 will effect the stock TC (without some type of software Protection)NONE of the Downloaders have it ,They are supported by the stock program,Downloaders stack a building on top of another building with No consideration for the original design ... Another (so called) shop that sell engine ONLY Hp without the support of a transmission upgrade and leave the Buyer with the Bill. .

Absolutely, that trans WILL NOT hold up to that kind of power. I personally know a 325/610 DC owner that put a new SunCoast trans from Jeff Garmon in his truck because his stocker went up in smoke at 550/1150 or so, and that was TST on 5, so it had quite a bit to go.

I wouldn't get too wild without at least a TC upgrade.

I did some searching and I'm thinking about going with the quadzilla xzillarator 60-140 HP, after AFE intake, and boost, pyro, & transmission temp. guages. Would it hold up to that? or would that be pushing it.
