suggestions on gooseneck horse trailers

i bought a adpter from TSC for a 7 rv hook up{on a 01} to a 6 pin round and when i hooked it up the trailer brakes lock up??? has any body experienced this problem??? And any help would be helpful Thanks Justin:confused:

It's actually pretty common. Unlike the 7-pin RV plug, there's not a formal convention that everyone uses on the 6-pin plug. Often you'll find that the 12VDC battery charging lead and the trailer brake lead are switched on the 6-pin wiring. That sounds like the situation you're facing - you're powering the trailer brakes off your 12VDC lead from the truck when you plug in.

To fix this, if you have access to the internals of the 7-to-6 pin adapter, swap the 12VDC and trailer brake leads going to the 6-pin side. If not, you'll need to swap these wires on the 6-pin plug on the trailer - of course, depending on how his truck is wired, the next guy that uses the trailer might have to switch them back!

Here's a link to the trailer pin connectors on the 7-pin plug. Note that this illustration shows the location in the 7-pin connector mounted on the truck - the 7-to-6 adapter will have the same pin numbers but will be a mirror image as you look at the adapter plug face. 7-pin plug

RustyJC is exactly correct. I had this situation last year when I borrowed my father in law's trailer that he pulls with a Ford:eek: I had a fit trying to figure it out. You would think there would be a common wiring patern everyone follows. The wire lug for the 12v constant hot is locking your brakes as soon as you plug it in. Hope this helps good luck

Thanks
