Yesterday while driving my ABS & Brake light came on and at same time my speedometer quit. Is this a common problem and what is the repair needed?

It is a 1999 with AT-2WD-SWB-with only 39K miles. This is the only fault I have had in 8 years.

Royal,

On my rear pumpkin there is a vehicle speed sensor. I'm not sure about your year but, I unplugged the connector shot it with electronic cleaner from an aerosol can, blew it clean with my shop air, re-greased the weather boot with electronic grade silicon grease and reattached the connector. My same problem as your's went away.

The sensor that WT speaks of is the speed/abs sensor, if the cleaning don't clear up the problem then the sensor is probably bad. I had a 99 and mine started acting up when it collected metal from the differential (the carrier bearing spacer failed). I have read (here) that the sensor is bad about breaking off when removing, do a search on abs/speed sensor and you will see some of the solutions when it does break off. bg
