New to the site. I have a 2001 24 Valve turbo diesel truck. When I first start out ( after letting truck warm up for 15 minutes ) the truck will not go at all. After driving a distance it will finnally kick in and take off like normal. Also while driving around 50 MPH i wil push down on the throtle to go and it goes no where. I had it at the dealership and they told me they could not find anything wrong. Please help I'm out of ideas

Yes there were four codes. I don't have them in front of me right now but what I remember one was injection pump timing the other was a companion module and a third had something to do with a rev limit exceeded, which was probally me flooring it when it wouldn't go. I cant recall the fourth one off the top of my head. The dealership told me they were all old codes though. The funny thing is you would of thought they would have cleared the codes. I dropped it of at the transmission shop yesterday to have the ussual transmission service done and was telling the guy about my problems. So he hooked it up to his computer and stated the four old codes were still there. So he was going to clear them and test drive it and get back to me today.

I'd have them record the codes then clear them.

But if you had the injection pump timing code thats the pump.

I'd find another shop to take it to. I wouldn't go back to that one for sure.

Welcome to the site. I hope you get your problems figured out soon and inexpensively.

May I suggest creating a signature which will appear under the first post you make in a thread. You can do so by going to the pull down "Disscussion Forums", select "User Control Panel", then click on "Edit Signature" and enter information about your truck. This way everyone knows what you have and you don't have to type it in each time you have a question or provide help.

As far as your problem - I agree that you should take it to another shop. Does it "@ 50 MPH step on go pedal and goes no where" happen when it's at full operating temperature? Did it just start doing this? How long have you had the truck?

Yes The Sig Would Make It Easier I Have To Work On That.

I've Had The Truck Since It Was New Never Had Any Problems With It Except A Govenor In The Transmission.

The No Go At 50 Mph Started About Two Months Ago, But I Couldn't Down The Truck At That Time Since I Needed It For Towing My Trailer. This Is There All The Time Even After Several Hours Of Driving. You Have To Let Off And Let It Shift To Go Anywhere.

The Initial Take Off Problem Started Just About Two Weeks Ago That Only Happens After The Truck Has Been Parked For A Few Hours And Only On Initial Start Up.

I'm Getting It Back From Having Its Annual Trans Service Tomorrow So We Will See If That Helps Anything. They Also Cleared The Codes For Me At The Trans Shop.

the lift pump in the 01 has led to more injection pump failures than anyhting. this could possibly cause the no go but I had to replace the CPS (cam shaft posistion sensor). my truck would not throw a code and dealer could not figure it out. I started replacing sensors. follow the wiring harness for the injection pump and it will branch off and lead to the CPS. Located just above the injection pump. its a son of a gun to get to but the part is cheap.

hope this helps

If you are comfortable with the trans shop - ask them if the no shift is in the valve body or it could be the throttle to trans cable needs adjustment - they stretch out as they get older. It's a PIA to adjust as the graduations (clicks) are very minute and each "click" affects shift points - my DTT builder has to keep tweaking (bend) the cable stop bracket at the trans to get the correct shift points I wanted. Just a few ideas not really sure thought. The "no go" @ 50 could be the APPS needs cleaning or re-program. I've re-programmed/reset mine by disconnecting the batteries for 1/2 a day, then connect back up, turn key to "on" (not to start then on), "slowly" push go pedal to floor (emphasis is on slow here), then "slowly" release go pedal, turn key off, then start as normal. If this works or not, hey - it's free and only takes a little while to do. Worth a shot. As far as cleaning the APPS - I'm not sure how to suggest proceeding - I know there's info here somewhere and as usual finding it is the challenge. Hopefully someone will reply and provide the cleaning method.

Good luck.

Welcome to tdr on an 01 you should be able to turn the key on and off three times leaving it on on the third and you should be able to read the codes. If you have had the codes cleared and there is a problem with timing, the 216 code will come back. If you are out of warranty you will most likely not want to pay a dealer to effect repairs, or purchase an injection pump from them.
