Hi I'm In Alaska and new to the TDR site And new to owning a Dodge. I have an 02 H/O Ex cab Short bed and will be using mostly for my winter commute from Palmer to Anchorage. Its about a 100mi round trip so I want to try and wring as much economy out of the ole 6 banger as I can. As you all probably know, winter driving means lousy fuel economy But a an ex diesel owner friend of mine told me that if I installed a fuel preheater I would be able to get summer economy during the winter too.

Is this true? And if it is where can I get a fuel preheater.

Thanks

Welcome aboard Mike. I am from Chugiak. As for fuel temp. Once the truck is up to operating temps the fuel in the tank can be quite warm. A fellow member had the fuel being pulled from a 5 gallon tank in the bed and after some mild motoring he said temps were near 150*. The fuel is used to cool the injection pump so 70% goes back to the tank. I dont see the need for a preheater personally but to each his own.

With the extended period we run on #1 a lubricity additive is a good investment. These pumps were not designed to run on #1.

An Espar preheater is nice. It heats the coolant by using diesel. They have a remote system that is very convenient. If you have money to throw away call Jeff at advance diesel in Anchorage. 278-1999. He has alot of bombing goods in stock and is quite knowledgable. He isnt on the cutting edge but he knows alot.

Thanks All

Looks like I'm already set up for preheating my fuel. Those cummins guys think of every thing.
