Archived Need hrlp finding Vehicle Speed Sensor on 1998 12v 5speed 3500

My Speedo has been acting up the past few days, I did a search and figured out it was the VSS, had the trouck scanned and it produces a P1596 code. I ordered the VSS from Checker auto, it has a small shaft on the end of it, and three wires on the other end. From what I have found the sensor should be on top of the rear diff, I pulled out that sensor, but it llok nothing like the one from checker. Any idea????

I just replaced mine on Tuesday, 99 2500. I bought it at the dealer, $41. 08 list price. Part number is 56028187. Ask them to make sure is it for your application as well. I cannot imagine that there would be much difference but we are talking about an auto manufacturer and a 3500 truck.

As soon as I started it back up the computer started began its diagnostic checks. I didn't even have to leave the driveway and the ABS and BRAKE light in the dash had already gone out.

I had a couple metal splinters stuck to the magnet so I also changed my gear oil as well. I found it easier to work under once I dropped the spare tire out of the way.

I did see the big magnet, it did have some metal slivers on it, I removed them, but it did not help. Thank you for the part number I will go to the stealer on Monday and get one.
