OK guy, rush on this one, My friend has a 91. 5 cummins w250 dodge, the alternator is overcharging, i need to get the regulating diodes for the alternator, where should i look, Auto Zone and Advance don't have anything, NAPA is closed right now, I need these things by Thurdsday in a bad way, My friend is goin to Lima OH to school and needs to have everything workin good on his truck

Thanks

Kevin

no computer, it still has the external voltage regulator like the old 70's and 80's trucks did, It is still a pretty simple setup there, I know the problem is with the diodes in the rear of the alternator, it is putting out 18 volts all the time, if you unplug the regulator it will be fine, but otherwise it will boil over the battery.

The Chrysler/Dodge external regulators are world famous for crapping the bed and frying batteries. Happened to me more than once (not on my truck yet though). Every time it would fry the battery and changing the regulator fixed the problem... oh yes the batteries needed replacing as well. .

I would also stay away from AZone and Advanced when dealing with electrical components. Been burned toooooo many times.

Good luck

Wow, Lima, Ohio!!! I think I recognize that place from somewhere?? Oh yeah I graduated from there in 2001?? Is your friend going for Auto, Diesel, High Perf. , Ag, or all of the above?? It's a good school to attend and tell him not to listen to the guys that travel home everyweekend and say that there is nothing to do out there. . I was there for 3 1/2 years and I found plenty of stuff to do out there other than Partying... . Oo. I was just up that way back in May and wow they have really added on to that place!!! The school is really growing. . Fortunately that place is where I got hooked on Diesels and Hooked on Pulling!!!! :-laf :-laf

my '89 did the same thing, boiling the battery, replaced voltage reg... no luck. still 18+ volts. had to replace the whole alternator and it was fixed.

good luck trying to repair the alt. I was on the road out of town at the time so I was happy when napa had my alternator in stock. $$ core charge though.
