Need info.

I have a little problem and I have performed a search but it did not help.



I belong to another site dedicated to the landscaping industry and there is a thread going that is talking about diesel trucks. Anyway, a fellow there states the 2003 Cummins is the same engine as previous years but with a different fuel injection system. I disagree saying the block has been strengthened, different pistons are use, the head may be different, and so on but he still disagrees with me.



My questions is where did I see the info detailing the changes made to the 03' engine. I did a search and the only thing I got was the Cummins home page version which is vague.

Two thirds of the parts are new or redesigned on the 2003 engine as compared to its predecessor. Oo. Oo. Oo.



The Fall, Issue 37, TDR Magazine will have a detailed analysis of the parts changes.

I think the injection system, (pump injectors, etc. ) pistons, turbo, ex manifold, and valve cover are different, but not sure about the rest.



I'm more of a 12 valve guy

The current issue of the TDR has a long article on changes to the engine over the years, including a little box highlighting what's different and the same in the '03--should cover everything you need. It mentions something done to the insides of the block walls (I can't remember exactly what) for increased strength, and talking specifically about the HO, it lists the J-jets bolted to the block to direct cooling oil into the pistons, and of course the ported pistons.

I will set this guy straight but the real kicker is I think he drives a second gen Cummins.
