Just purchased an 03 6sp with 105,000. Went out to start it the other morning and was greeted with a loud "pop" and a huge cloud of smoke. Left it set for a couple hours tried to start again and appears to be hydrostatically locking and engine oil has thinned out. Had the local mom and pop diesel shop take the injectors out and it turns over fine and will run on wd40. Was told all six injectors are bad from water contamination [rust is apparent on the injector tips] and need to spend 2500. 00. dOES ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE, should i take it to a dodge dealer and let a certified tech diagnose it? Anyone know of an honest diesel shop with the ability to check the bosh injector to see if in fact all six are bad ? If they are bad from water contamination are they exchangeable? Where would be the cheapest place to have them tested/rebuilt. Was barely able to swing the deal to purchase the truck and now am in a bind if i have to come up with 2500. 00, the shop will charge 250. 00 to remove or replace the injectors, how difficult is this as i would like to save 500. 00, any help would be greatly apreciated, jim

If yo can fix it cheap enough, I would stay away from Dodge as they will void any warranty that may be left on your truck. Make sure you get all the water out of your fuel before you install the new injectors. As for needing new injectors, all 3rd gen CTD's need new improved injectors. Common issue.

Good luck

It's hard to recommend a shop when you don't tell us where you are. You could include at least your city in your information under your name.

Better check the tank, CP3, rail, fuel filter for contamination.

you need two different checks on the injectors: are the electrical solenoids working, and what shape are the nozzles in.

Unless there is some used truck warranty, there is no warranty left over 100,000 miles.
