OK all, I have a minor issue with my new truck. I get off work at 0300 in the morning and as I'm heading down the road drinking my coffee I have a hell of a time trying to "see" where the darn drink holder is so that I don't spill my "lifer fluid". I want to light up that area with just enough light to make out where to put the cup but not so much as to be annoying when driving down the road. I have the six speed so I have the floor console, any comments or suggestions?

Thanks,

Great thought!!!

I'll have to stare at it tomorrow. Seems like an LED or 2 would be the ticket. Just need to find a spot to drill, that faces down.

I realize this doesn't help with your questions but give it time. You'll be able to drop the cup in the holder everytime without thinking about it.

Put a little hair around the hole. You'll hit it every time. . :D Oo. ;) :-laf

I have a nice little maplight that plugs into the cigarette lighter. It has a gooseneck so that it can be directed where ever you want it and it has a dimming feature that works by turning the head and that just allows more or less light out. It also has an on/off switch. It was given to me as a gift years ago and is of pretty high quality. The name on it is "Osram" and I suspect it was from one of the speciality shops like Brookstone or Shorty's Sports Shop. Sounds like this would be just what you might need.

I like the LED idea, maybe we could mount it on the underside of the lower cubby (pointing down)?

Or you could secure it to the gear shift lever, pointing down towards the floor. When nobody's watching, you could pretend it's the switch to your imaginary Jake Brake :D

The bendy snake type cigarette lighter lamp idea sounds like the way to go though. Could be used for a few other things too.

John Deere's right. On my first long trip I was wishing I had a light. On the way back from that very trip I was putting it back in the holder without taking my eyes off the road.

Looked around a little while I was driving home. It feels like there is already a square hole above the lower cubby where a bulb/fixture would mount. I'm guessing they planned on one when they designed it, and removed it to save costs:mad: .

I noticed that too boonsur, I think I found one in the ash tray area as well.

I think I'll stop in at Radio Smack and see if I can't come up with something that will give off the factor color with a low light. I don't see any reason to plug it into the dimmer system because it is one of those things that only needs to be on dim.

As for the hair around the hole? I like hardwood floors... so that wouldn't work either! :D :D :D

I put the quadzilla gauge mount in mine(the one that goes in the cubby under the A/C controls) and the gauges give off the perfect amount of light so see the cupholders in my 6spd. So that gauge mount killed two birds with one stone:D

Hella also makes one of these, they're just called a map light. They can be had in a couple different configurations. One just plugs into your cig lighter and the other i hard mounted onto a flat surface. They come with a red diffuser to make soft light that won't impair night vision. They're great for their intended use as they put light down low for map use instead of lighting up the whole cab. Any Hella dealer should be able to get these.

On a recent trip with my brother and nephew I discovered a minor flaw in my CTD, not enough power outlets. I remieded this with a 3 outlet box that I permantly mounted in the little pocket at the bottom of the dash center section. The center outlet has a lighted ring around it which also iluminates the console area.

I found a cheap map light at a local Taget store that was just perfect for this job. I don't think it would be bright enough for reading but it sure helps me find my coffee in the dark or whatever I have dropped down in the abyss.

I only spent less than five dolars ':)' on the light I have a nice osram one also but it is too bright'' while driving. If you plug it into the cig outlet it turns on and off with the key.
