I had Xtreme Diesel in Wall on RT34 do the gear swap for me. I wanted to go to a locking carrier but nothing was available yet for the AAM axles. They recommended to stay with the OEM L/S I currenlty have.

I thought they did a great job on the install and praised them for it on one of these threads. They usually do excellent work..... but may have missed something on mine.

The truck now has a pretty noticable wine (which says a lot as I have a pretty loud exhaust) when you coast down to a stop. Phil of Xtreme said the higher gears will whine a little bit. At first I believed him, but after taking my brother's 3500 truck out with 4. 10's from the factory that don't whine at all I'm getting worried. I need to call them ... .

Do look into it. IIRC mine was around $750 plus shipping. Dodge brought in (from another dealer) an AAM certified tech to do the install. I check the wear pattern on the teeth at each fluid change and it's perfect. Silent as well...

The factory LSD isn't worth the time, money, or effort to put in... he will be disappointed.

And new gears properly set up should not whine unless they are "high performance" which means they are cut different.

Odd, I've had very good results with mine. If I'm feeling froggy I have no problem at all leaving 4 big, beautiful black marks in my wake.

Just my experience...

Try driving in snow... I can leave two black marks on asphalt too, but in snow it isn't much better than a open diff.

The tracrite differential short of sucks.

I just returned from another year in Alaska and had no problems at all in deep snow or black ice. I agree that it's no locker for sure. I've just had good luck with it compared to some others. Mine seems to have gotten better with more miles. The inside duals chirp on slow, tight turns. Trust me, if we had a locking alternative I would surely recommend it over the Trac-Rite.

Will the factory electric lockers from the power wagon work on a 1-ton?

It would be nice to see a 1-ton power wagon with a cummins!

The front will work, but the rear is only a 10. 5"... but you can get a electric and ARB for the front now... they are still working on the rear last I heard...
