My friend has a bad box and would like to know the cheapest place to get a "rebuild" or new one. Any ideas is appreciated, thanks. .

I would try an AGR steering chuck. Most reports are good about them. I wish I had know about them when I changed mine a couple of years ago. I would have gotten one in a heartbeat. About 300 bananas.

Or for a good rebuilt one see below:

Steer & Gear
1000 Barnett rd
Columbus, Ohio
1-800-253-4327

They have remanufactured steering gear chucks for all Chrysler(only ,they specialize) products. They say the units meet or exceed factory specs. Also they say that the boxes are every bit as dependable as a new unit-at a better price.

The Dodge boxes years,'94-'99 are $195. 00 with exchange. (prepaid postage in box for core return) Not available in quick ratio

I was very happy with their service. The box was great too. It was as tight as a new one.

I think you can get a rebuilt chuck from the big auto parts chains now. Auto Zone, Pep Boys, Advanced Auto, NAPA, ACME.

I was quoted 129 bananas at Auto Zone a few weeks ago. Posted that on another thread and a bunch of guys razzed me about the quality of the AZ piece. Oh well, they were all ready to drop 400 bananas for the AGR. If I did that on every part on the truck, I couldn't afford to drive it! One nice thing about this group, income doesn't matter, we all like the trucks!

One more thing, a week or two ago I saw where a few were complaining about getting the core charge back from AGR.

The AGR is probably a much better part but as the old saying goes: "You get what you pay for". If you do go with the AZ part, don't give them your old one until you are satisfied with the new one.

Thats a good price. I would have went that way instead Steer & Gear if I knew I could get one at Auto Zone. They are probably very similar.

I didn't know about AGR at the time. I probably would have tried one of theirs first.
