Help. I just got my first 5er and was a little sad with how my truck pulled it. I live at 7000 feet and pull a lot of hills comming in and out of here. Except for the exhaust and the intake the truck is stock. What would be a good first BOBM step for me. I'm not looking to spend big $$$ so bang for your buck is really important.

You could get the new juice with attitude. It isn't cheap, but if you consider the price of gauges and a box it doesn't seem so bad. I think I saw a group purchase on them too.

You should have boost, egt & fuel pressure gauges. For a first power mod, I'd suggest a Smarty. If you want more after that go with bigger injectors.

I installed gauges. Boost, EGT, and Fuel pressure. Sorry I forgot to mention that in my original post. I really don't want to tear my clutch up. So will a smarty or a Juice work with my stock clutch? I'm just looking for more pulling power. At this altitude and with the rather steep grades it really feels a little weak when pulling my 5th, it's about 12000 lbs. Anybody with a simular setup who could comment on the performance differences would sure be great.

MRiley, Best bang for the buck out there is the Smarty IMHO. Ditto what darkhorse stated above. . I don't think you'll be sorry for going with the Smarty.

Anyone out there had experience with the smarty and the ez. I would like to know how the two compare.

I ran an EZ on my '01. 5 before I got a CaTCHER (Smarty #9) I'd have to say, on the top end they are about the same, but on the bottom end, Smarty just plain responds faster. It's in the throttle response & lack of turbo lag that makes the Smarty shine.

So is it better to go with a Smarty or a set of injectors like mach 1. They are both about the same price. Like I siad I'm in it for towing not racing. Also is it cool to tow with the Smarty turned up? I read somewhere on an old post the some boxes, like the comp shouldn't be run the higher levels when towing.

The injectors will need a boost fooler of some sort, The Smarty and the Edge EZ have that built in so they make a better first choice IMO.

I ran an EZ and 275 injectors for 4 years and just got a Smarty, I also would recomend the Smarty over the EZ.

Did you change out your clutch or did it hold with the injectors + the EZ. And how did you use the truck, Towing or empty driving?

The EZ went in around 40k, the 275s at around 60k. I still have the stock exhaust and with this combo exhaust temps have never been over 1250* The stock clutch held fine until I lost the 5th gear nut at 145k. The clutch looked great when I pulled it, I would have run it another 100k with a new pilot and T/O but the center was cracked :( (the 5 speeds do this but your 6 speed should be fine)

275s are only around 35hp, any larger injectors and you would probably need to upgrade the clutch.

My driving is about 75% empty or lightly loaded, the other 25% is usually over 15,000 lbs and sometimes as much as 26,000 lbs
