I just got a Magellan Meridian GPS and would like some ideas for mounting it in the truck. I did get the double swivel bracket with it that allows the unit to tilt up/down and turn side-to-side, but haven't quite figured out where to mount it. It seems like putting it on top of the dash will put it too far away for comfortable viewing and operation and will also obstruct vision.

I'm considering getting the Geno's Cup Smoothie (notice that I do have a manual trans, so that limits my options somewhat) and mounting the bracket on that, but if anyone has any innovative ideas please post them or pm me.

this company makes high quality mounts of all types and many customizable configurations. No affilliation here, just a satisfied customer. I have the large suction cup mount with 4" arm that allows me to stick my Etrex to the window next to the a-pillar, and the GPS is suspended just above the light switch where I can see it real easy... . but that's just one option.

BTW - the suction cup is strong enough to hold when off-road.

GPS mount

I have a Magellen GPS with the suction cup swivel mount. I only use it on trips, so it's not permenently mounted. I like to stick it by the A-pillar with the bottom of the mount on top of the dash. I don't suspend it because I don't trust the suction cups that much. At this location it is readable and within reach for operating. I plug in the DC power adapter and run the cord straight up the dash in the crack where two dash pieces meet. Then I put on some electrical tape to keep the cord in place and run the rest of it on top of the dash and under the dashmat.

One potential problem with this location is that it is only good for the driver. Ideally the navigator is in the right seat. But when I hook it up to my laptop running Delorme software, the GPS location is largly a mute point.

The GPS is a fun toy. I'll be taking my Cub Scouts on a Geocache trek next weekend.

dremelts, I bought a R. A. M. mounting base with a swivel and used 3 self tapping screws to mount it to the bottom side of the upper dash plastic trim about where the vent is located. This allows me to move it toward the windshield or back into the cab area a bit. Easy to see, you can use the power plug just below it and I also use it to hold my cell phone when the gps isn't in. Sorry I don't have a digital cam. for pics.
