My rear pipe rusted off about 6" behind the muffler, went out to get the paper this morning and thought the tip looked like it was hanging a little low took a hold of it and it was free floating.

After further inspection the front pipe and the muffler look like they dont have long to go either. Removed the rear section so as not to cause any carnage to my or someone elses sheet metal while driving to work.

What are your suggestions for replacement parts go with OEM or see what NAPA or Auto Zone offer? The OEM went 112,000+ miles.

I don't want anything loud so a straight pipe is not in my future.

My neighbor down the road has a straight piped 3rd Gen. so I know what that sounds like.

I thought these OEM pipe were stainless steel I would not expect stainless to rust thru but I am no metal expert, so I don't know?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hard to beleive someome asked the same question 9 Minutes before I did.

I have to practice up on my keystroking speed I guess !

The factory pipes are a coated aluminum and wear through after awhile. I have Pinnacle Power duals on my truck and love the looks and sight. They seem to be very hard to reach recently. I would do a search on here and find a number and email them. If you can't get a hold of them Source Automotive is real popular.

My $0. 02

Don't drive too far that way, My 98. 5 had same problem, and it melted the emergency brake cable from having the exhaust blowing on it!!

If you are planning on keeping your truck for any length of time, spend the money on a good 304 stainless system from someone like Silverline, MBRP, etc. They look great, sound great, and will stand up to the salt here in PA. I've had them on all my trucks and I can't say enough good things about them.

I spent 3 days checking out different exhaust systems ,I went with the Banks because it was stainless and most important to me the quietest of the bunch. My second choice would be MBRP or Silverline. Local shops could not bend 5 inch pipe for the tail piece and did not do stainless.

After checking around on the web I ordered a Silverline T304 Stainless Steel 4" turbo back system one of the few 304's I found. The fitment was good with all the hangers lining up well. The new exhaust has a mellow rumble on acceleration, and as far as I am concerned at cruising speed it is no louder in the cab than the OEM exhaust. I like it ! :-laf:-laf:D

I put the Silverline T304 Stainless Steel 4" turbo back system on my 06 I just sold... What ever you do... Don't use the crappy steel crush clamps!! Get the TorqTite stainless band clamps.

304 Silverline system here also..... absolutely love it... I don't have the salt environment issue here in Texas, but got the 304 system for the 409 price... Who could pass that up???... I'm currently running without the catalyst, just the Silverline system... . Noise isn't bad at all... My truck is due to be inspected next month... may have to install the catalyst to get a sticker. .
