I have a 1996 CTD, I think the Turbo is going bad. It has gotten a good bit louder in the last couple of weeks (winning). Where is the best place to get a new one from..... reasonably priced? It is a stock turbo... . I guess that would be a hx-35. Any input will be apperiacted.

you can find good used HX35 in the TDR Classifieds or you could ugrade to a little large turbo for as little as 695. 00 if you reuse your exhaust housing

you could give city diesel or rip rook a call. both places sell the dodgezilla turbo. they are an hx35/40. they are $685 shipped to your door. that price is without an exhaust housing.

Before you get a new Turbo check yours out. Get a Dial Indicator and check the shaft end play (fore and aft) that should be a Max. of 0. 006 inch. Then check the shaft side play (side to side) that should have a Max. of 0. 018 inch. Do this by taking the hose off the Turbo and putting the Dial Indicator on the shaft nut.

I've bought over 100 used turbos in the past... never run into one that I inspected first that had any issues... if you buy from a trustworthy TDR member, and he tells you it's in good shape, I don't think you can go wrong.

exactly :)

new turbo

Monroefiredog1,

Make a few calls, compare notes of the turbo repair, then decide to repair or buy a new turbo. I just did the same thing for xmas. I went with the HTT turbo people. ;)

Make sure you tell any turbo mfg you go with all your upgrades that you are planning BEFORE you buy. ;) Then you may not need a second turbo buy.

My $. 02

good luck in your choice,

WAYNES WORLD
