If You Were A Dog, What Breed Would You Be?

Ducks!

I got this old pair of Georgia Boots There about 10 years old and its time for a new pair.

Tractor supply don't carry this style anymore. In fact nobody here except Cow Town outfitters (about 2 hours away) carries boots except a couple Amish stores.

I would buy them from Cabelas, but I don't know what size I need, and 3-5 weeks is a long time for shipping.

I need to be able to put polish on them so they "look" half decent when I am supposed to be wearing "business dress"

Any recommendations?

I am heading to the Amish Store tonight, they carry Chippewa, rockey, Woverine and double H.

Want to stick with the Wellingtons, as my big feet don't fit the pointed toe boots very well.

I suppose the printed size is long gone from the inside of the boot. That's always the way it goes.

Have you tried calling Cabelas? I've gotten the phone folks to actually put a tape measure to things before I buy them from some of the better catalog stores.

Good luck!

Jean

Your right about the size marks gone, they lived a long life, in fact all the tread is gone as well!

problem is this boot is shipped direct from the factory so I can't call Cabelas for information, thats why its 3-5 weeks for delivery, then you find out it don't fit and have to return it.

I guess I could try to call the factory (is it really in Georgia?)

I don't have anything against trying a new type either, These have lasted a while, but there could be better ones made.

ever thought of refinishing them? I sent my danners back in a while back and they practically rebuilt them. They "washed" the leather and reconditioned it, then resoled it replaced the eyes and eyelets. A nifty job and i the boots felt brand new when i got them back.

Just a thought, but if your boots are hammered beyond a reasonable doubt then i guess you may be stuck searching for a place to try them on. I hate mail ordering boots. I ordered from cabela's once but only after i tried on the same pair at a local store... that believe it or not was more expensive than cabela's (i didn't think that was possible!)

Have you looked into Redwings? I know people all have their favorites and I have really good luck with the Redwings. I wear my boots every single day, I climbs stationary ladders, ride motorcycles and dirt bikes, weld, walk a gizillion miles and walk on mezzanene deck grating all the time. I can ruin high quality sneakers in short order but my boots last a long time, infact I never wore out a pair of Redwings because my company buys me new ones every year, but I have put 3 years on a pair in the past and they were still solid. Check em out.

I never had any luck with Redwings or Wolverines. In fact, my Redwings only lasted about 4 months before a significant part of the stitching gave out and left me stranded. I could get a set of Wolverines to last the better part of a year. I am REALLY hard on boots, I often end up walking in wet concrete without my rubber boots on at some point, finish concrete in them, and climb over all kinds of forms and foundations, etc, etc, and that can kill a set pretty fast. I have had good luck with Double H, and they are about the same price as Wolverines and cheaper than Redwings. I'm on my second set of Double H's in 5 years, so that is pretty good for me.

Good luck.

Eric

I had a pair of Redwings when I was on the railroad. Got 18 months out of em before I threw em out. Pretty darn good considering the abuse I put em thru... walkinng on steel and ballast, battery acid, fuel, lube oil, pit grunge, etc.

And of course all the walking in snow and salt.

Always comfortable and weatherproof... even when they were about to fall apart.

boots cost 180 bucks... . company paid half. Best 90 bucks I ever spent. (kind of a special boot... . wouldnt find it in a normal store. Had to have the 9+ inch high ones to satisfy the rulebooks. )

Personal use--- I've always had good luck with Wolverines. comfortable and durable. I haven't brought a new set of boots in 5 years. :D

and the winner is chippewa Nice boots, they feel like they were built just for my feet. I did not plan on spending that much, but as soon as I put them on I knew it was money well spend.
