Supposedly......
You can buy the adaptor from the Chevy dealer to put a 700R trans behind a 5. 9. I do not know this for a fact, but Manual from Brannex Truck Salvage (505-877-4244) in Abq says it's so. I think the pattern is the same for a 400, so you might check it out.
A better way might be for you to find a 727 or possibly a 518 (if you want OD) Dodge transmission mated to a NP205 transfer case. Manual does have one of these setups, (a 727) with a gear vendor overdrive unit on it if you are interested. I understand these are just about bulletproof (the 727, don't know about the OD unit) if built correctly.
Dodge used the 727 from 89 to mid 91, and the 518, from mid 91 to the end of 93, I believe. I am not sure. I also think another name for the 518 is a 47rh, but again, I am not sure. I am sure, if wrong, someone will correct.
Do a search for "conversions" and "Chevy" and it should bring back a few postings about Randy Bleuth in Prescott, AZ who has done a number of conversions. He probably knows as well as anyone what to look for, and he can sell you some prefabbed motor mounts for your truck.
Good luck on your project. Are you married? If so, we can induct you into the POW club before you start spending all the grocery money for parts... .
