need opinions on gas truck

I am looking to buy another truck that is a extended cab. I have always stuck with Chevy gas trucks and Dodge cummind diesels. But am having a hard time finding a Chevy that is under 170K miles and under $5000. I have seen many Dodge 1500 gas trucks and found one that is a 96 SLT w 140,000 miles. From the photos it looks clear. Is there things I should look for that are problem areas on these trucks? Hows the trannys on them and what am I looking for a rebuild?



Again I only know Chevys which are cheap to fix. Thanks

my mom has a 97 dodge 1/2 ton 4x4 with over 300k on the clock. The only major was a new transmission around 175k? I was driving the truck when I was younger and towed some boats that were a little heavy for a 1/2ton. This truck has the 5. 2 318 auto. If I were you I would look for an early 2nd gen with the 360 or v-10 and D-60 front end
