I need to get

2 intake horn gaskets

1 intake manifold cover gasket

1 throttle cable and the linkage bar with the two ball and socket ends. Perhaps the recall kit?

Have looked at moparpartsamerica.com but can't find squat.

Recommendations?

Throttle cable - 53031594 - $18. 29
Linkage bar - 4897118AA - $18. 11
Threaded bar - 5011957AA - $16. 73
Rod end 1 - 5080767AA - $3. 51
Rod end 2 - 5080763AA - $7. 19
Lock nuts (2 required) - 4429100 - $0. 57
Lock nut (1 required) - 4762049 - $1. 50

All parts numbers are updated from factory parts book and prices are at moparonlineparts.com.

In doing some research I also found part number CANZ9700 which is the recall kit. The above site lists the kit at $12. 36, but it doesn't list what is in the kit. And, the recall that references this kit lists it as for '94-'96. I found another recall for '97-'98's, but it only calls for replacing the ball studs and rod ends, presumably with the superceded part numbers listed. Here is a link to the '97/'98 recall info. Recall #B15 - Diesel Engine Throttle Linkage. You may check at the dealer and see if this recall has been done, maybe they'll supply the parts for free. Hope this helps.

Quick update. In looking at the NHTSA recall information (wondering if MY '98 falls into the recall and has been done) I found the part number for the '97/'98 kit. The kit part number is CBKRB150 and lists for only $4. 31. I have a feeling the recall parts may not be available for purchase by an individual, but I don't know that. If they will sell them to you, it may not be at this price.

Prior to the recall the throttle linkage could be bought as an assy. It was about $35 at a Dodge dealer in CA IIRC. I had three break prior to the recall, and none since, so IDK if the assy option is still available. You could also check with Cummins, if they have it (I know they have the gaskets) it would cost less.

Thank you kind sir! This is immensely helpful.

I think I'm going to have to buy the parts manual. I have a shop manual which helps, but I always struggle to find parts numbers for this truck.

I'm going to research the CANZ9700 a bit further. Might be the way to go. My linkage is all whacked out from when the dealer did the recall.

UPDATE on the CABLE Kit:

They are saying Chrysler has the kit on order and they have no idea when it will come in. GRRRRRR.

GulDam

Too bad it doesn't include the rod itself, that is what kept breaking on mine. What was the cost for the kit?

I may have to look around elsewhere for the kit or the rod ends and threaded parts, since this is my immediate need. I went to adjust mine on Monday, and as I loosened one of the jam nuts the rod broke. The kit is $12. 58.

GulDam

If it includes a new throttle cable that is a heck of a good deal, rod or not. I believe a rod could be fabricated with not too much trouble.

Another update. My local dealer has the CANZ9700 kit in stock. Another dealer said there are lots of them in the computer all over the state...

And a few minutes ago I got an email saying my whole order with moparpartsamerica.com has shipped.

Life is good...

Great. You'll have to let me know how the kit is. Someone apparently saw the link I posted on my dinner break last night and bought ALL 3 KITS. So much for my plan of buying one for myself.

Triple Ouch!

I'll holler when it comes in, and make images of the kit and post back on this thread. I hope my linkage holds together till I get the parts.

And if need be my dealer has several in stock at $15 and change.

Seems like this linkage should be a larger diameter, since they appear to be prone to failure.

Update on I need parts

Got the kit in, and it's got three female ball ends, a throttle return spring, one large ball end, and one small ball end, and two nuts. I think they shorted me one large ball end and nut. Also, came with the cable.

Going to call the dealer tomorrow and see if they have the rod and threaded end. I should have ordered those when I ordered this kit... but hindsight...

Now I hope I can make the time this weekend and sort out the throttle cable and linkage, a boost leak I have and my low fuel pressure issue. I'd like my new found (a month ago) power back.

Have gaskets for the boost leak and new fuel pump at the ready should I need it.

GulDam

With that low fuel pressure you need to check the OFV. Pump may be weak also, but make sure the spring in the valve is not broken or collapsed. Get it to 20 psi or so at idle.
