Need PICS of BIG EXHAUST 4"

I ordered the Big Exhaust 4" mufflerless system and "began" to install it tonight. I would really like to see pics of the tailpipe installed.

1. It hangs WAY too low IMHO. The only way I can make it look close to the way *I* think it should look is by pushing it up until the axle hump is touching the bed. And even then is still looks too low to me.

2. I'm only able to use ONE of the rear hangers and like I said above, when using it it pushes the tailpipe down too far.

3. Pretty much wherever I try to hang it the tailpipe sticks out past the fender about 4"

4. If you get the pipe underneath the truck to look right (atleast close) then the end of the tailpipe is all the way towards the rear by the bumper.

So far I can only say that I am disappointed in the system. When I first considered it I compared it with Rip Rooks and they have the same bends in the tail pipe so I assumed it was good to go. Now I AM having a bad week with the rig so maybe I'm just doing something completely stupid but I would appreciate input, especially from anyone running the Big Exhaust or Rips system...

Thanks,

Ryan

Ryan,

I can't offer any solution to your problem. But I am interested in how this works out for you. I talked to rip and he said his system will work fine on my truck. He said the tail pipe will come out close enough to use the last factory hanger however a strap has to be welded to it to make it fit my 96. My fear is getting my truck tore apart and the system will not fit and parts are a week out on the west coast. Where did you get this system?

Ron

I've got the Rip Rook system, I used the weld in hangers (had to make the one for the rear) looks great (don't have pic's yet) I have the allied muffler sounds great no drone, if you order the system he will E-Mail you the Install instruction. Took me 4. 5 hr to remove the old system (can still reuse it) and install the new one, welding most of the connections and the hangers, get the S/S Megan Flow 5" tip looks way cool  . On the Rip system you can cut about 2" off the last pipe that goes to the hump pipe, this will bring the tail pipe closer to the body, you will have to cut some off the tail section if you use the S/S tip to keep it out of traffic. I found that if you cut the pipe, cut a little fit it cut some more fit it, keep cutting till you like the way it looks. Good luck.

I installed Rips system on my truck. I cut the pipes as per his instructions, prefitted the complete system before welding and its still going strong after 1 year. the only change I made was to use the OEM hanger at the transmission(6spd). Sorry I do not have pics.

This is my system from Rip with the 5" tip.

When I installed it, we cut the last bend off the pipe and replaced it with the tip.

Desperado,

Which system did you get from rip? Diamond Eye? How does the sound compare to the stock system? I don't want to get louder than stock. I talked to rip about 2 mufflers. Did it match up to the factory hangers?

Ron

The system was the one that cost $374. 00 then the tip was $64. 00 two band clamps @ $10. 00 each. In the cab with the Windows up it sounds about the same maybe a little quieter, out side you can hear the turbo, has a deeper tone, so louder the stock, I like it. I have found that the the heater has to run more (window down a lot). With weld on hangers you can make them fit like OEM.

Off topic but the little quote remind me of the old saying " yeah I cut it three times and it's still too short";) ;) Just made me laugh, I needed that, thanks.

Thanks fellas

I was going to start cutting away at it last night but wanted to see what others had done first. I may be a little off my rocker but when I talked to BE I was under the impression that I would only have to cut the long straight peice because it was a short bed. This all makes me wonder why I had to specify what truck I had when I ordered it.

Tonight I'm going to play some more with it and I will let you all know what the outcome is (with pics). I sure wish I had a tubing cutter that was big enough, all I could find was up to a 3". Looks like it's hacksaw time again.

story of my life hoss ;)

UPDATE...

Well here is the update.....

First of all when the exhaust showed up the band clamps didn't make it. I was dying to get started so I called BE and they said that they were shipped out on the same day and "will be there tomorrow". So I proceeded to remove my exhaust and get the new one on so that I would be ready when they got here.

Next day... . no band clamps

Come home today... . no band clamps. BUT I received an email from them this afternoon stating that they had "just shipped my order". Well that's funny since the exhaust is ALREADY ON MY TRUCK. The email had a link to the UPS tracking page which stated that both of the items had already been delivered...

I called BE again to find out what the mix up was. They told me that they had been shipped and they didn't know why I didn't have them... duh. He called me back a couple minutes later to tell me that the band clamps were NOT shipped because they were on BACK ORDER. Now if this was indeed the case... why didn't they tell me that up front instead of telling me to go ahead with the install because the clamps "will be there tomorrow"?????? He said that he could get them shipped out in the morning and I should have them by next Wednesday. I explained to him that I put this exhaust on based on the fact that they assured me the parts would be here on time and that I had to leave for a cross country trip this weekend and I HAD to have the clamps now. I told him that it was their mistake and if he couldn't get them here in time for me to make my trip I would have to find someone who could help me out... . his reply was "Well then, do you just want me to credit your account for a refund?" I was thinking something more along the lines of "well since we made the mistake we will get them out next day air to you"... .

Now I understand that sometimes things happen but from the beginning this has been an unpleasant experience to say the least. Shipping was not what they said it was, the parts don't fit like they told me they would and they don't care about the fact that they caused me a great inconvenience and they made absolutely NO effort to help fix the problem that they caused.

I have to give Big Exhaust a HUGE thumbs down.

Heres my Rips 4" with the Allied Muffler. This is the end result with the 5" Genos Monster tip.

I used the stock brackets but had to finesse the angle of the pipe to be just right. The pipe ends out 90 deg straight out to the side. From the rear, it does seem to hang down a bit but not much, that is just so the pipe is level out the side and not angled up or down.

c-clamps

Hey Ryan

I did not get "band clamps" with my big exhaust. Unless they have told you something different they come with c-clamps.

I did get a band clamp at great plains Cummings for about $8 for my tail pipe. It is really sad that they couldn't't get things together for you the first time.

I plan on changing the c-clamps to band clamps anyway so you might be better off in the long run. You still need the clamps that have the hangers on them.

Rob

P. S. I'm still trying to send you pics.

Local big rig shops.....

That's where I got my strap clamps and way cheaper than Napa. Probably not open on Sunday's though. Mine were $8 and change. If you've got it all hanging sputting on the clamps wont take long and it's easily adjustable with the strap clamps.

Well, exhaust is next on the list for upgrades and this thread certainly says a lot!

Rip even has an exhaust package with a Comp.

Bob Weis

Exhaust is on

Well it's on there and I am happy with it. As with everything else I guess you get what you pay for.

Big Exhaust:

4" system = :)

Customer service =

Did someone say Viagra!!!!

As soon as I can get the adapter that goes from 4" to 5" this is what I will be replacing my 4" turndown with. I have a stainless steel clamp that I will be using as the hanger to replace the stock one. I am planning on cutting the tail pipe just past the last bend and slide the adapter up against the turn and weld it on the tail pipe.

The stainless steel clamp will be put around this monster and then mounted to the stock hanger.

I will post pictures when its done...

This doesn't sound good..... truck's in the shop right now because some idiot with no insurance ran into the back of it last week..... $7300 worth (you should have seen his truck-1500 took the bumper/hitch across the headlights... totalled). He got into my exhaust, so..... new 4" system. The body shop will order/install. Where do I find info on Rip's system? Sounds like Big Exhaust is a bad deal... ...
