Guys,

Big Don here. Just updating you on the upgrades to my '00 truck. So far Edge EZ, DD II's, Jardine 4" no muffler. Awaiting a 14 cm turbine housing. The truck runs good, puts out about 32 lbs. of boost. Will spin the tires, but it still don't run like my furst gen (the first gen is about 2000lbs. lighter). What should I do for more power, I do tow with the truck, but need more kick in the pants. Thinking about a Power Edge comp box or TST Power Max. I am not sure how much more the PE comp will give over the EZ. How about the power max??? I need this thing to roll the tires hard. What do you suggest?? I am afraid the DD !!!'s will get too hot for towing. Maybe an adjustable box so I can turn it down to tow. I am also going to install a Southbend clutch. Not sure where I am on power right now, figure it is @300hp at the wheels. Sounds like I need @ 400 to get this thing to run like I expect.

thanks

Don Peters

Dang Don, you are power hungry!!! One of the wire tap boxes like the Comp or Powermax will definitely get you to 400 from where you are if you get the hot programs. Going to the DD3's would only get you another 25HP or so, and I would guess you are making 315-330HP at the rear wheels now. You can sell the EZ and get a Comp or add a used PE to the EZ, The PMax will also add to the EZ you have very well. Hope this helps.

Don,

I know of one ETH that put down 383 HP at BD last year. It has DD2's, a PE COMP, South Bend Clutch, PDR turbo, and a few other goodies.

Don,

How does your stock clutch handle the DDII's and the EZ? Have you slipped it yet? I would have been interested in buying your EZ box, but I just bought one from Gizmo 007. My next move after getting the gauges, exhaust, bhaf, and EZ ... ... was the DDII's. I just didn't want to spend the $$ for the clutch right now...

Currently the clutch will spin if on an on ramp in fifth and hammer it (just did it to see where I am at). Normal driving and racing around, no slipping. I would highly recommend the DD II's. I did not go with the DD III's cause I was afraid of a heat issue. I figure I'll go with the DD II's and an adjustable fueling box, probably an EDGE COMP or TST PM3. I have noticed the TST website says the PM3 will cause heat issues, so probably go with EDGE. They have great products.

thanks

Don

Don, be aware that the Comp will have heat issues too with the stock turbo and your mods in the upper levels. Both boxes will be close for max temps with comparable programs in them.

LSMITH,

Can you elaborate on the similarities/differences on the TST PM3 and the Pwoer Edge comp??? I am installing a 14 cm housing this week. I run 14's on all my trucks, cause the 12's seem to starve the truck for air above 2200 rpm's. You can feel the power "taper off". So..... after I get the turbine housing swapped, I would like to buy one of the larger fueling boxes, just looking for suggestions.

thanks

Don Peters

Don, I have not run either box you mention on my own truck. With the larger fueling boxes you are buying features and packaging. Which one looks better to you? Do you want smoke control mainly from the box(Edge) or your right foot (TST)? Do you want to defuel when EGT hits a level you pick (TST)? For my money I think the TST would get the nod for the defuel at high EGT feature, as far as I am aware Edge does not offer this feature. Plant your foot on the carpet and go without worry appeals to me, what use is power if it gets too hot to use? The Blue Chip FMS also deserves mention as it has all of the features I would look for in a major box, defueling, gauges, data logging, etc. You might post specific questions about all three boxes, they are represented well in the membership.

My point in the previous post was that you should expect similar EGT for similar performance. Because Edge does not specifically mention that EGT is going to get out of hand does not mean that it will not get too high. Hope this helps.

Don, I tow every now and then, with DD3's and a TST Powermax 3 Competition box. Even had a Van Aaken and propane all on there at the same time too. Running a stock Hx40 turbo made that possible in terms of controlling EGT's. Give Piers a call, he's selling special Hx40's, built for durability and no lag. www.piersdiesel.com

The main advantage of a TST is it's re-programmable for fueling curves, duty cycle, etc. I'm a 2 hour drive away from TST headquarters, so it's easy for me to get it done. But I love the program that's in there now, not really planning to change it. The Edge Comp is a very good product, though, I plan to try one soon , just for fun.

Briar Hopper,

Can you run the VA box with the other boxes at the same time??? I have one and ran it today with my PE EZ, but unhooked the EZ from the data link for fear of screwing something up. I was only using the map sensor portion of the EZ. I found the VA gives lower response than EZ, but the truck is much quieter with the VA hooked up.

thanks

Don

to obtain 400hp and control the EGT's is not an easy thing to accomplish---unless you use a box that defuels like LS Smith says or go to a twin turbo setup or possibly the new B1 turbo it's not going to happen---sure you can get to 400hp but you're not going to be able to sustain it on the street---you generate to much heat---there is still a lot of work going on to obtain this HP or higher and use it for more than the 1/4 mile run or sled pulling venture----I'm at 397hp with everything turned on and my EGT's go to 1733* and I can hit 1300* without blinking and this is empty with my mods-----chris
