2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Need Power Window Track Roller

Hello All,



If anyone is familiar with the power window motor mechanisms in our truck, you might be able to help.



On the power window unit, there are sizzor type arms that are guided in a track on the bottom of the window. The actual guides are round plastic rollers, about 3/4" diameter, that snap onto the metal arms and that is what rides inside the track making the window go up and down.



Anyways, one of my plastic rollers broke and the window took a crashing fall forward. I pulled it all apart and after talking with the Dodge Dealer, they say I cannog buy just that roller, I need to buy the entire mechanism. This is crazy... So I was wondering if anyone had any damaged or junk doors lying around, might be able to pop one of those rollers off for me.



The truck in question is my 98 Quad Cab.



Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What dealer did you call, Graft or Connellsville? The same problem happened to one of our jeeps under warranty and I'm almost sure that graft only replaced the wheel only. If you haven't called grafts yet (724-887-7800), give them a yell in the service department, not parts. Ask for Kenny, Ron, or Ed and tell them that you talked to me and I told you to call. They should be able to lead you in the right direction.



Second, Approximately what size is the nylon wheel. I used to go through those things at least once a year on an old blazer I had. They could be close enough to make them work. I might still have an extra laying around the garage somewhere (I can't promise though).

I had a moment at lunch so I went ahead and called grafts. They said that it is only sold as a single unit and not as an individual part. They suggested the bone yard as probably the only option.



I will look at home tonight and see if I have anything that would be close to a fit.

I appreciate the help. I talked to Connellsville about it and was going to try Graft next but not now...

Oh well I guess I will keep on searching to see if anyone has a wrecked or rusted door lying around with this part.



It is approx. 3/4" diameter and 1/4" thick, white UHMW(plastic) material.



If I remember, I will bring the broken pieces with me tomorrow night to Eat & Park.

any idea as to if this is only for 2nd gen trucks??as i am in the hunt for not the roller but the metal track that the rollers go into but for a 1st GEN... . any help?

I've heard this story many times, as I used to work in an Auto Glass shop many years ago. Go to any decent Auto Glass shop and they will be able to help you.



We always stocked an abundance of various sized nylon rollers, just for those factory type lift arms in which the stock rollers were trashed. Generally the stock ones were riveted in, while the replacement rollers are bolt-ins. We just drilled the old ones out and replaced them with the bolt-in rollers.

I just replaced my passenger side window motor/regulator assembly. My motor died (with the window down of course). The dealers are right it's only sold as an assembly ($167 here). I still have the old parts so I can send you a roller. The only caveat is I'm getting ready for a final inspection on my house (both bathrooms) so it would most likely be a couple of days before I could send it. On second thought, I could ask my wife to ship them through her work tomorrow. Send me your address and I'll get it out.

Somebody in here recently wrote of a similar problem and said they fabricated a new roller. I asked what they used for the roller material and asked how they did it but as I remember, no reply. I've had to have one replaced under warranty. I'm sure the other will be giving out soon.



On the other hand, I'll keep the glass places in mind (thanks rrausch).

Another route would be to buy a $5 pair of drawer slides at Home Depot and use one of the rollers off of it. They are in the cabinet dept. Some of the higher end drawer slides even have ball bearings. Ball Bearings!? What a concept! (OK, if the DC roller has ball bearings, I take back the rolly-eye thingy)



Yes, mine died too. Fortunately under warranty.

Maybe sliding glass door rollers would work. I think a plastic material supplier might have stock that would work.

I went to an auto glass shop. They sold me a roller with bolt

and nut on end. Drill out the old roller rivet and install new roller. They charged 5$. The first shop I called had it.
