Check engine light/stutter/limp home?

I am not positive but I thouht you had to use an optical or magnetic pickup that you put on the crank pully to get RPM when you dyno.
 
I've never dyno'd anything. But since your truck has no ignition system, any inductive method to reading RPM is useless. Bertram's right... you'll need something optical or magnetic to read right from a pulley.
