I have a 1994 2500 4x4 with 3:54 axles. Need to change the rear axle for one with 4:10 gears and positraction. Cannot change the gears from 3:54 to 4:10. Anyone know a good source for this? Thanks.

cannot change the gears from 3. 54 to 4. 10? If you're getting a posi/LSD (assuming you have an open diff now) you're changing the carrier anyway... is there something wrong with your housing?

Galen, The dana 80 going above 3. 73 to 4. 10 uses a different pumpkin and carrier. The location of the pinion in the housing is different. Going above 4. 10 in the 60 front axle will also require new pumpkin.

Found an axle in Mitchell, SD with 4. 10 and posi. Will now have rear axle and front axle gears to sell when I get the swap done.

Not sure who told you that, but a D80 housing is a D80 housing. the only thing you would need to change is the carrier. Same thing with the D60F trust me, its not a different "housing" the housing is the same no matter the gearing.

I have heard that the carriers were different, but the quote I got was for front & rear gears, rear Detroit Locker and front open carrier. Something around $2k a couple years ago. Never compared, I've come to REALLY like what I have. 5th gear 2k RPM is 60mph dead on, great for towing. 6th gear is real long-legged for running empty.

Dana/Spicer Housings

I have to agree with what was said previously, the housings are the same, but the carrier may be diff, I investigated changeing from 4. 10 to 3. 90 and ask about the new 3. 73 set up too, what I found out is the 4. 10 uses heavier thicker ring rear so spacing it becomes an issue possibly with a 3. 53/3. 73 carrier, I didn't go that route after all but found many places other than Dealers willing to sell me the parts needed to make gear changes, and it was also pointed out, both pinion and ring gears will need to be bought and it is involved setting up run out, backlash, pinion end play, etc. TL
