turbos??

Are these turbo to manifold bolts for real?

Installing an X-monitor tomorrow, if it don't rain :D

Need some basic help with a couple questions (almost feel stupid asking, but I can't seem to find the answers with the few resources I have at hand)

1) Where is my PCM?

2) How do I identify the #1 pin wire to tap into for my transmission temp signal? :(

3) When I reinstall the turbo, what is the torque spec for the 4 manifold to turbo bolts? Don't want to shear them off...

Geesh I feel like a newbie asking these questions. Guess I better get a manual soon so I can stop looking so helpless

Thanks,

Joe

1) Where is my PCM?

Look through the driverside front wheel well at the motor, you will see a square silver box with lots of wires.

2) How do I identify the #1 pin wire to tap into for my transmission temp signal?

There are two connectors- a 50 pin and a 60 pin they are numbered from top left to bottom right, reading across, so number 1 pin will be the very top left on each connector. I don't know which connector you would use for trans. temp. (sorry)

3) When I reinstall the turbo, what is the torque spec for the 4 manifold to turbo bolts? Don't want to shear them off...

32 ft. lbs.

Thanks Stick,

Maybe another member can help me identify the correct trans temp wire at the PCM.

I feel confident enough now to get started on this project.

Drilling my new manifold is going to be pretty stressful though

Will check back in later.

Here is a picture of the "Boost" fitting I use. It is a hollow bolt specificly for this type of application.

You will need to talk to the BD factory to get updated information as the 2004 units no longer have a PCM for the automatic transmission. The functions of the PCM are now done by a newer enhanced Cummins ECM. From my DRBIII scanner updates I know the automatic transmission temperture sensor now feeds to this new ECM but do not have connector pin information.

Thanks Guys,

I guess I will wait until Monday to call BD.

Anyone know the torque spec for the hollow boost bolt?

Back to the manifold disconnect.

BD's XMonitor tech says

According to one of the XMonitor techs at BD in BC :D

Pickup the digital trans temp signal at the trans 8 pin connector,

at pin 8 (dark green and orange).

Or at pin 29 of the ECM C2 connector? (wasn't sure which was connector 2)

The problem is they have not yet finished the programming for the new 48RE transmission. He said to call them in 3 weeks and send in my module for reflashing with the new trans temp info. The 04 XMonitor should be out by then, and it will be already set up.

In the meantime just run the XMonitor as usual. It will show low trans temps, about 119F, that you can ignore, or set to ignore, until reflash.

Suggested setting pre-turbo limit at 1100F. I said how about 1200F. He said maybe. Any comments from the gallery?

FWIW to those with similar issues,

Joe

Now all I have to do is figure out what wire to tap for the "ignition on" power source near the steering column. Any help?
