MY 96 2500 4X4 DOES NOT LIKE TO STOP. AFTER CHECKING THE BRAKES THIS WEEKEND I FOUND THEM TO BE OVER HEATED . THE DRUMS AND ROTORS WERE CRACKED. LIKE THAT WAS A SURPRISE:rolleyes: HAS ANY ONE CONVERTED OVER TO 2001 TWIN PISTON CALIPERS. IF SO WHAT IS NEEDED TO THE JOB. WILL THE CALIPERS JUST BOLT ON OR DO I HAVE TO CONVERT HUBS, ROTORS AND HANGERS. AND IS THERE ANY OTHER REAR DISC SET UP OTHER THAN EGR?

Get the 3500 rear wheel cylinders.

Slotted and or crossdrilled front rotors.

Have the front calipers properly rebuilt! Be sure to lube the caliper bolts with "the special grease"(this is one of the big problems that causes trouble with the rest of the braking system)

Stainless front hoses too.

As above use the "good pads" Sam seems to know the right ones.

:)

Flush the brake fluid (all of it)

Absolutly a HUGE improvement over stock!

P. S. give the pads and shoes at least 100 to 200 miles to properly brake in.

thanks every one for the info but i would like to know if any one has converted 96 front single piston calipers to 2000 twin piston. and if so do you have to swap the hubs rotors and hangers or will they just bolt on?

Better braking

I got the 3500 wheel cylinders from Sam P. and just got them in on saturday. Way better braking.

The brakes on my 96 are far from perfect but they are adequate if they are maintained. Change the brake fluid on a regular basis, put in the larger 3500 wheel cylinders, maintain your existing calipers every 6 months and replaced them when they need it. Don't turn the rotors off the truck and keep an eye on rear seals when you rotate tires. Sam can fix you up with some good pads.

This has kept me from parting with big bucks for a conversion.
