Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) fuel additive question

As a couple of you might have read, My 99 2500 Automatic died on me while I was on the freeway, and wont start. I just replace the lift pump a couple of months ago and all seemed well. Now I can not get it to turn over and there is absolutly no fuel pressure. Even the lift pump doesn't seem to be working. I was thinking it might have been that I ran out of fuel and that I have a bad Fuel Tank Sending unit, but then why would it throw the code????

I was finally able to get to the truck for the first time since I got it to the auto hobby shop. I was convinced that it was the Injector pump, but now I am not so sure. The Truck threw a 1689 Code which basically means that the ECM and the Fuel Pump are not talking. Because I was convinced that it was the Injector Pump, I called Blue Chip and Indusrial Injecton to see about fuel pumps. The guys at II were quite helpful, and they told me it could be either the fuel pump or the ECM.

My Question is how can I tell which one it is??? I don't want to by any parts that I don't have to. If it is one or the other it is about a $1300. 00 bill. If it is both, then it will be more like $3000. 00

Any advice on this would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

Gary

I had the same thing happen and it turned out they werent related. Fuel pump was a cracked pickup tube in tank and 1689 was a loose neg batt cable.

I forgot to add that everything else seems to be working fine. The Starter still turns the engine over, the battery cables are on and secure. I have yet to get under it and see if something was wrong with the fuel system. I can't believe that there would be no pressure from the lift pump

See if you are getting fuel to injection pump. If have fuel there, disable air intake heaters and spray WD40 into air intake while cranking. If starts or tries to start you probably have a bad injection pump. If the check engine lamp comes on and the wait to start lamp comes on the ECMs are on and ok.

Thanks DCTECH

The Check Engine and Wait to start lamp do lite up and then go out. Well I know the wait to start does, I am pretty sure the Check Engine Does as well.
