How do you go about disassembling the front driveshaft CV joint? I tried pressing the u-joint out, but it binds on the yoke. The FSM is'nt very descriptive on these double cardan joints. I may end up replacing the whole thing because the center section looks pretty rough. Please help, I want my four wheel drive back!

I dont know what to tell you.

I do however know that the whole replacement unit is about $200 from your local dealer (end to end).

The cv joint went out on my 03 with 80k on it. Napa wanted over 200 to repair it. I got a new one from mopar4less with shipping for 185 and it has the grease fitting for the center ball.

I remember doing one a long time ago on a friend's Bronco. I think I had to get all the caps out, and then it was a real juggle to get it apart and a real challenge to get it back together. It was done though.

Does yours look like mine?

I just bought a new shaft from the dealer a few weeks ago. $265 total, $245 for the shaft and $20 for new front bolts and tax.

It looked exactly like yours. When you call tell the counter guy internet sales or they charge the regular price of 245 instead of 176. 40. 800-748-2139

Thanks guys! I just got mine ordered from Mopar4less. Found myself a TC rear output shaft seal there too. Now I just have to wait for the big brown truck to show up!

NAPA rebuilt mine and tried to charge me $230 ... ... ..... I told them to put it on EBay and started to walk out the door. They ended up beating the $200 for a new one from the dealer and charged me $185 or something.

I went ahead and ordered a new front shaft from Mopar4less. I figure its good insurance for the upcoming pulling season.

My front shaft cost 196+17 for shipping. As I recall the manuals usually cost a bit more since everything is bigger (u joints, shaft diameter, cardan joint etc. ).

Darn those 3rd gen's! Just called them to price one for my 2001 and it was $406 plus shipping...

I wonder if a 3rd gen driveshaft will work if I upgrade to a 271 t-case?

jwilliams3, do you know what the differences are between the driveshafts (2nd gen to a 3rd gen)?
