Can any of you guys give me some advice on what I could put on my exhaust system yet to take some of the droning noise out,I have the 4 inch MBRP system, and I love the sound outside I just need a little something else to help the in the cab noise, how about the factory resonator that is on the new dodges, would that help??????

After installing a MBRP 4" turbo back on my '98, I found it a bit too loud. I added a 4" Cat that I got from a member who was installing duals on his '06. That quieted it quite a bit although it still had a pretty "throaty" sound.

I'm sure the resonator would have much the same effect.

I did MBRP also, and as soon as I hooked up my camper, I went straight back home and ordered a dynomax muffler from Summit Racing that is basically the same muffler as the MBRP for like $95. I then installed that in place of the test pipe where the cat was. It helped a lot. However, if I was starting over, I would do a 51" Nelson or Donaldson. My dad put that on his 06 and it has a slight growl outside the truck and sounds bone stock in the cab. The flow numbers are just as good as the MBRP as well. The reason it's so quiet is because its the size of a VW. It took the place of the CAT and muffler, and takes two guys or a jack to install it. But that's what I would reccomend to anyone at this point.

my neighbor did the 51" donaldson muffler and says it is better, I just added a second muffler to my truck and it is alot quieter driving around and if I crank up the power it still sounds good but not as loud as before

I have a 4" muffler from summits exhaust system sitting on my shelf... . it was never installed on my brothers 98. 5. I have the same system on my truck as him, but I installed the muffler on my truck & it is way quieter than his truck. I'm not sure who makes them for summit, but It is a straight through design to maximize flow & eliminate drone. If you wanna try it... . Pm me & I'll sell it cheap.

If you have any big rig dealer/service dept near you such as Kenworth or Freightliner the 51" mufflers are the big mufflers you see on the big rigs stacks while driving down the road.

Hey if you want a great muffler go with the Donaldson 51", I think I paid $93 dollars at the local big rig shop. I swaped out the stock muffler, elbow and down tube to make my system 4" all the way through. I had to add 38" of 4" pipe to fit in where the cat use to be or was. Since I have owned the truck it has not had a cat. I notice no increase in noise in the cab 65 to 80 mph and very,(I mean very) little drone pulling a small trailer.

I put a Nelson on Dad's '03... big mistake. It is NOT the same as the Donaldson. The Donaldson has a "pinched" center whereas the Nelson is a 4" hole straight thru. Certainly no performance loss from the Donaldson as it's flippin huge, but from what I've read they are a lot more mild.

Here you go found this link, look at second post http://turbodieselregister.com/foru...76261&highlight=donaldson+muffler+part+number

It reads:

I wen't down to my local Fleetpride and the Donaldson part# M090544 crossed over to a Fleetpride part# M4490. This thing is huge! It has no drone @ highway speeds but a real nice "airy" sound @ idle. I love this muffler.

Does anyone know how they sound outside the cab,do they sound better then stock, how do they sound compare to my mbrp,I love the outside sound of my mbrp, but it is the inside drone noise I am trying to get rid of,or can you not have the best of both worlds?????

How did it sound outside the cab with the Donaldson 51,does it sound better then stock, does it still have a rumble?????

I'm haveing the same issues...

I started with a 5" system, which I loved, but the drone while towing was unbearable.

Switched to an MBRP 4" and it's a lot better, but still pretty bad at times while towing.

I'm going to add the rokktech to my MBRP (the mbrp's paid for, after all) and see what happens.

Good luck!
