2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Need steering help!

I just replaced my p/s pump and gear, got everything put back together, and performed the service manual first operation procedure. It doesn't seem like the power assist is working very good. The tires will not turn very little when sitting still at idle and the metal hose fittings and hydraboost are getting real hot pretty quick. The brakes are working fine though. What the heck is going on? Still air in the system? Bum pump? A valve not operating in the gear or what? PLEASE HELP!
