I need to changet the fuel filter on my 2006 it has 33,000 miles on the truck but I have never done this. Changing oil no proplems. How do I go about this the correct way.

To prevent a big mess drain out some fuel first. Then take the lid off. The filter is clipped into the lid. Snap it out at a 45* angle. Make sure the old one has a plastic top and bottom on it as sometimes the top of the old filter will stay in the lid. Snap the new filter into the lid and install the new o ring. Lube the o ring and thread the lid back on. Turn on the key and it will fill up. Start the engine and check for leaks. It may run a bit rough for a minute as it purges the air. It's a good idea to wear rubber gloves. The go in the house and ask your wife if she likes your new after shave :) Shad

Shadrach hit the nail on the head. I would like add this though. Be careful if you use a wrench alone to turn the nut on the cover. You can break the plastic lid. I grip the lid with one hand and with assistance from a wrench turn on the nut to get it loose at the same time.

Thanks for your help, I needed the help

I try to take care of my 2006 Dodge as best as I can. I just put a new axle seal on the driver side. It was leakinf very bad. That was a easy job. I do change engine oil and grease it when I can find a fitting. Also just put new battery's in the truck also. I sold my 95 Dodge diesel and miss it very bad. Bad mestake. It only had 58,000 miles and garage kept since new and no rust. I kick my butt every day about this. I guess we all do stupid things. Wife talk me into selling it.

I sold my 91 W350 CTD after I bought my '00 and boy did I miss that for quite awhile. I really like my '00 now after I made changes and added things. I quit driving it in winter about 6 years ago and now in the winter I find I am tearing it apart and fixing it up alittle at a time. I have relatives who have '06's and those are really nice trucks. Little issues hear and there, but overall they like u'm. I am sure the '06 will shine when hooked up to trailer over the '95. Have a good one.

surprised the mileage before filter replacement did not cause a leak at the filter like mine did at 15K miles. After I unscrewed the old filter, it looked like it was encrusted with creosote.

You are really taking a chance waiting that long to replace the filter. Fuel filters are the most important part of the fuel system and should be replaced at least every 15,000 miles and sooner if you suspect any dirty fuel.

I had a '95 and there's no way I would want it back. The brakes were marginal, it required the spring tower modification, new trans cooler lines, AC pressure line failure, rear axle seal leaks, tires lasted half as long as the '03, and the last straw was paint failure on the already marginal paint job. On the + side, it got a little better local fuel economy and had a slightly tighter turning radius.

I would just add that you should drain all the fuel out of the filter housing so no unfiltered fuel makes it into the engine. Also be sure to look into the bottom of the filter housing and wipe out all the crud that collects there. After putting everything back together, turn on the ignition and let the fuel pump fill the filter housing before stating and your engine will run fine.

Changing fuel filter

I had free oil change and filter until Warranty ran out. Now I change oil and filters. I had it done every 3000 miles.
