I need to drain out fuel from my almost full fuel tank on my truck, What is the best way to do this.

Thanks Bill

I guess I would want to place fuel in Jerry cans and then just dump this fuel in one of my dozers or backhoes wonder if the will run better with taxable fuel? ;)

There is a fitting on top of the sending unit, just forward of the fuel lines. It has a rubber cap with a spring clamp holding it on. Remove the cap, attach some tubing, and syphon. When done there will be 7-8 gal remaining in the tank. To remove anymore fuel you'll have to drop the tank.

Done it twice, it aint fun

what I did was get a cheap electric fuel pump from the autoparts store along with 25' speaker wire, 10 ft of 3/8 fuel hose, 3/8 barbed fittings to fit the fuel pump and a few hose clamps.

Disconected the fuel supply line from the top of the tank and connected one end of the fuel line to the tank and one end to the fuel pump. Another piece of hose from the pump to the jerry cans. Used the speaker wire to wire it direct to the battery. Pumps out just about every last drop.

I've never been overly fond of sucking on a fuel hose of any kind, but to get around that I take a piece of clean hose about 4 ft long (okie credit card), then another short piece of hose, stick both in the filler neck with the long one all the way to the bottom of the tank, pack a few rags around the hoses and blow in the short one, an air compressor makes it a lot easier but dont over pressurize the tank!! it only takes a few pounds pressure to get the fuel flowing.

You could also buy a drill pump like a Flotech. I've used a variable speed 3/8 inch which has worked well. Hook up some hose to each end with one end in the tank and the other in what ever recepticle you plan to use to capture the fuel and pump away. Won't take long to empty the tank. The pump will push approx. 225 gallons per hour.
